As a European, this is quite entertaining to watch. What are your opinions?

Its all fun and games to any of you anti-Trumpers and they don't care since their side isn't bearing this censorship, however if the sides were flipped, you guys would be complaining too. This is a slippery slope to greater censorship and suppression of more people. I don't see how anyone could possibly see how this ends well. When the people don't have an ability to express their opinions peacefully, the only way to do it is through violence. I do not support violence, I am only saying this is what will happen when this censorship will be let loose and rampant for the next 4 years, because lets be honest, Biden is not going to make this any better.

It's not censorship, it's Twitter's platform.. the guy broke multiple rules and they let him get away with it since he's the president, but enough is enough. He literally incited violence and is more than likely the main reason why the capital was rushed yesterday.

I'm not against Trump btw, I thought he was the better of the two in the 2016 election, but enough is enough.

In my mind, Trump being banned is fine. It's Twitter, a social media app, it doesn't really matter. The guy who was putting the disclaimer that his claims were disputed must've gotten sick of doing it, so they obviously banned him, duh. Kappa

There is an argument to be made that platforms like Twitter & Facebook are now channels for freedom of speech. It has been a big conversation lately and de-platforming the nations loud mouth could bring some larger attention to it. I think the GOP hopped of Trump's boat though so perhaps we won't see anything come of it. facepalm

Seeing conservatives abandon small-goverment beliefs by pushing more government restrictions and oversight on private companies like twitter and fb because they aren't on their side is honestly making my year.

It's a private company.
Twitter can do what they want about speech.
There are multiple supreme court cases about this.
And frankly, he deserved it for all the BS he was saying.

You can make non-invasive legislation to protect free speech on platforms. There is an existing law called Section 230 that gives sites like Twitter, Facebook, etc legal protections from being sued for what users do on their site and also recognizes them as platforms not publishers. It also grants them permission to moderate on the basis of good-faith.

There is the argument to make that by censoring speech and deleting certain content, they are acting as a publisher of sorts rather than a platform. Publishers don't get the same type of protections as a legal platform, and I am not saying they should be classified as one, but we need to update the law to still protect platforms, but at the same time protect people's rights to speech. So this law arguably needs amended (added onto, not replaced) to also protect free and political speech online as a clause within the bill. This wouldn't be obtrusive and doesn't require invasive governmental control of the sites, that is just an excuse they give to not have that be amended.
