Since it has been relevant in the gaming and entertainment sector lately, I figured I would create a thread discussing shroud and Ninja’s move to Mixer, the effect it will have on Twitch, and if anyone has any predictions about other streaming serviced buying streamers off Twitch (hint hint).

Anyway, go nuts.

I think it's a good thing that large streamers are bought off Twitch, gives a variety and also forces Twitch to improve themselves in order to not lose all their streamers.

I have never watched a Mixer stream but I believe Mixers quality has to be good, or else neither Ninja or Shroud would change.

Mixer won't be a serious competitor until at least 3 more top streamers move to them. Top streamers such as Dr. Disrespect, Pokimane, Greekgodx, etc.

Mixer’s quality is significantly better. I watched the vast majority of shroud’s stream yesterday in 1080p60, none of Twitch’s normal blurring or frame loss.

Agreed. Though, Microsoft’s only goal with Mixer is to throw around some cash and see if they can shave 3-4% off Twitch’s market value. Twitch has never had a competitor and they are exceptionally vulnerable due to how controversial they are.

Here’s my general opinion

YouTube live has too many ways to become demonetized and offers less stream interaction and customization.

Twitch by itself as a company sucks. But if offers great features like twitch prime and amazing customization. Offering interaction. It’s biast but you can’t easily take down a video. Though it’s a problem. In addition to that you have all of the controversies that I don’t want to get into.

Mixer is Microsoft. So they can offer deals in the future relating to that, promoting streamers playing new games, it also offers them data that other game companies wouldn’t have.
The community is better, they are interacting with the streamers, listening. A huge improvement from twitch.

Originally everyone thought oh they bought ninja.

Now TFUE (likely, Ninja, Shroud, Gotham, and more?
Mixer had a great UI and is improving. I wouldn’t be surprised for it to topple twitch. It will take time though. There hasn’t been a reason for viewers to switch unless for the streamer themselves.

If mixer offers a version of twitch prime with Xbox gold and gives benefits to switch, free games, or something. It’ll be interesting to see.

This is an estimated price Ninja got 6-8 mil from mixer to be there over the spand of 3 years. Shroud is similar, also the quality on mixer is a lot better.

DrDisrespect denied it and got confused/mad at shroud. It’s still a huge step for mixer.

So I've heard, I was just mentioning him because he's one of the biggest streamers.

Ehhh... I heard from someone decently known in the entertainment industry and involved in shroud deal the contract was more to the tune of tens of millions. But I do agree, it is a big step for Mixer, though I personally feel Mixer is aiming towards the professional gaming side of streaming, it feeds to their business model of optimizing advertising potential. Adding pure entertainers/internet personalities such as Dr Disrespect sort of misses that model in my opinion.

Not saying they will stop. Saying they won't be a serious competitor until they continue.

They won’t. Neither will their friends over at YouTube, though.

Doc said it best.

To put it simply, he is wrong about what he thinks is going on and it pretty much proves he never denied any offers from Mixer. Doc has a family, he has kids, and quite honestly I would be hard pressed to imagine him turning down a multi-million dollar contract of guaranteed money from Mixer in favor of Twitch where the money he makes is far from guaranteed.

I know how much shroud's deal was, but I am going to intentionally give a different number to avoid any issues.

Let's say, per year, shroud makes $600k USD streaming on Twitch, not including external sponsorships or anything like that. He streams 7 days a week for an average of 7 hours per day, that is pretty much a full time job. However, consider the fact that none of the money he makes, is guaranteed. Any day, for any reason, his viewership could plummet, his subscribers could become less interested and find a new streamer to binge, whatever it may be, he finds himself making significantly less all of a sudden. He is not paid by Twitch to stream on Twitch, so there is zero promised income for him.

Now, let's say he signed a $20 million USD contract with Mixer for 2 years. All of sudden, his subscribers no longer matter, his viewership no longer matters, none of it matters. Shroud and Ninja stream because they enjoy playing video games all day, they are, quite literally, professional gamers. Shroud will make his $20 million regardless of his stream's viewership, same goes for Ninja. The difference is business, it is a competition. Mixer is owned by Microsoft, a trillion dollar company that turned $10 billion USD in just one fiscal quarter. They are using Mixer and buying out Shroud, Ninja and others to experiment with live streaming, they want to dominate another sector of the entertainment/business industry and why not challenge Twitch? Twitch is company showered in controversial decisions, or the lack thereof, and it has never once been given a serious challenge before by a competing company. YouTube Live has failed to compete (so far), Beam did nothing, and Facebook Live is a joke. Microsoft simply wants to try and shave a couple percent off of Twitch's market value and give it to Mixer to try and prove their business model and justify investing more heavily. A few $20 million contracts is practically a pennies worth to Microsoft as they make that money back in less than an hour.
