Is streaming on twitch still profitable if you're just getting started these days or has that time ended? Is Mixer a better platform or are they just buying more content creators?

High performance, consistent uptime and fast support. Minecraft hosting that just works.

Twitch still has the most users by far when compared to Mixer, and the most potential for profit with implementations like Twitch Prime and bits. However, that also means if you're a 0-viewer streamer it'll be harder for people to find your stream since there are also lots of other streamers with 0 viewers (although they recently did add a sort by least viewers option).

The general consensus in Twitch's community is obviously that they're superior to Mixer, and Mixer's just throwing money at streamers trying to buy the market from them. Mixer has some cool features for sure like channel points and the Hype Zone, but Twitch is slowly just copying them and implementing their own versions of these on their own platform.

I think the biggest reason you'd want to go with Mixer over Twitch is to gain a bigger sense of community with your fanbase, if you want to prioritize that over profit. It seems that everyone on Mixer is less hardcore than the people on Twitch (way less esports competitions, more focus on talking to viewers than high-ranking gameplay, etc.), and usually a little bit nicer as well. This is just my opinion and how I see it, however. If your sole purpose for streaming is going to be to earn money, I'd definitely go with Twitch though.
