Howdy play people,
In today's announcement we have major updates to our forum's layout organisation, our first standalone event, increased transparency, and more.

Community UHC event

On the 7th of March at 6 PM EST (or 11PM GMT), we will be hosting our first standalone server event welcome to all members of our community who have been registered for over a month.

We are allowing for teams of two and recommend players to team up, but if you would prefer to play solo the option is also available. In order to join in the event, you must fill out our sign up form by the 6th of March which is available here: https://www.mc-market.org/support/whitelist-request. Please only sign up if you are confident that you are able to play for the duration of the entire event which we expect to last for approximately 2 hours as places may be limited.

For anyone unfamiliar, UHC (Ultra Hardcore) is a game mode very similar to vanilla minecraft survival with a few key differences on our server:
  1. Players are spread throughout the world with the end goal of eliminating each other through pvp
  2. A world border that slowly decreases the arena size from 2000 blocks down to 25
  3. Health regeneration is disabled, only able to gain back HP through golden apples and health potions
  4. Strength potions nerfed and regeneration potions removed
  5. The server is only accesible through 1.7 and 1.8 Minecraft versions
  6. All players usernames are set to their MC-Market username
The winning team (or player) will receive a prize of $100 USD PayPal and a Contest Winner medal on your profile.

Throughout the event, our staff team will be monitoring all players to ensure that they are following our event rules listed below. Any player found to be breaking these rules will be blacklisted from all future events and will likely receive warning points on the site depending on the severity of their abuse. The rules are:
  • The usage of unfair advantages is forbidden. This includes autoclickers and x-ray resource packs.
  • F3+A spam is classified as an unfair advantage.
  • Blacklisted Modifications include, but are not limited to: Damage Indicators, MiniMaps which show entities and caves, and PvP Macros.
  • The creation of lag machines is forbidden.
  • iPvP, Sacrificing, Spoiling, Trucing or Teaming above the team limit, and portal trapping are forbidden.
  • Excessive stalking is not permitted. You will receive one (1) warning.
  • Skybasing, Going underground, or behavior construed as "camping" is forbidden within the 100x100 border shrink.
  • Strip Mining below y=32 is forbidden.
  • Accusing players of cheating in public chat is not permitted. Please use /report.
  • You may relog during the game but you only have 10 minutes to get back in.
  • No players will be respawned due to bugs, glitches, or lag.
A full set of all rules written in far more detail can be found below:

All Rules

Thank you to Pebblehost.com and BGHDDevelopment.com for contributing hosting and our UHC core to the event.
Forum Organisation

Along with this filtering system we have implemented some other significant changes to our forum categorisation, particularly with our services category. Specifically, the changes we've made are as follows:
  • Moved Services category above Products
  • Split Design & Media forum into now being named Graphics & Media with subforums for Illustration, Design, Motion, Videography, Textures & Modelling, and Other Media
  • Split Advertising forum to now contain subforums for Server Lists, Videos & Streams, Discord Promotion, and Other Advertising
  • Added Hypixel Skyblock subforum to Videogame Items, requiring Premium to post threads
  • Added Bots & Programs category to resources
  • Added Bot Development subforum to Development forum
  • Cleaned up Giveaways forum content
  • Retired our Support Requests system
Upcoming Development

In 2020, we are aiming to achieve greater transparency with our plans for the direction of the website. To achieve this goal, I would like to release more regular updates to ensure that everyone is aware of our future plans for implementation. We are releasing our development roadmap detailing our plans for custom development by continually updating projects to keep you aware of exactly what is being worked on.

Our public custom development workflow can be accessed through the button below:

Custom Development Workflow

Filtering System
Over the coming weeks we plan to say goodbye to thread prefixes. With faults such as being visibly very clunky if more than one is used per thread, as well as only being able to filter by one prefix at a time, offering anything more than offering/requesting in terms of filter options was not possible. In order to better serve our sellers in directing as much of the most relevant and interested traffic towards their threads, and our buyers in finding the most relevant and interesting threads for their viewing, we have custom developed an entirely new filtering system and will be rolling it out to forums in the near future.

This filtering system will allow us to filter by not just offering/requesting, but also by price range, whether the user is accepting trades, what currency they're accepting/offering and forum specific information, such as exclusivity, Minecraft version, platform, server specs, etc. The possibilities are limitless, and we're always open to suggestions from the community in adding more filterable data.

After our current projects are completed and implemented, we are planning to halt all future custom development while we instead work on migrating from XenForo 1 to XenForo 2. Doing so requires us to completely rebuild our forum from the ground up including our theme and redevelop many of our custom addons. While doing this, we intend to keep the community updated with progress and regularly request feedback from you to ensure everyone is satisfied with our move.

Server Maintenance

On the 3rd of March, we will be having a brief downtime while we re-establish our backup infrastructure and perform several software updates. We expect the downtime to last for approximately one to two hours, but it may take longer in the unlikely case that significant issues arise.

The maintenance period will begin at 5 PM EST, or 10 PM GMT. A countdown timer can be found here.

As usual, further updates will be provided via our Twitter and we apologise for any inconveniences this maintenance period may cause for you.

Ads Manager Updates

As per usual, we have made several adjustments to our MC-Market Ads Manager to balance prices of stickies and made some other minor adjustments. A list of the changes we have made to sticky prices are as follows

Screen Shot 2020-03-01 at 11.41.05 pm.png

Additionally, we have introduced a new banner advertisement placement in the sidebar of our resources index page and of all resources. Up to 5 banners can be active at a time just like our homepage sidebar banners and are visible to all users except for Ultimate members who opt-out. Resource Sidebar Banners cost $15 per week.

Staff changes

Staff changes that we have made since our previous announcement are as follows:
Other changes

Along with the great changes mentioned above, we have made several more minor adjustments to our forum. We have:
  • Added new hidden requirements to post threads in Middlemen
  • Added ability for Ultimate members to change their username every 14 days
  • Added ability for titles of threads in General Discussion to be changed
  • Added Ultimate Members tab to the members page
  • Added ability for Disabled accounts to view our wiki
  • Adjusted categorisation of ticket system to ensure better organisation for staff
  • Adjusted Giveaways forum to have posts not contribute to post count totals
  • Adjusted profile covers to be displayed as a higher quality
  • Adjusted wording of 5.7 to Do not ask for vouch copies on a thread unless the author specifically states they're offering them
  • Adjusted wording of 5.1 to Do not advertise a product or service on another member’s product/service thread
  • Adjusted wording of 1.8.3 to Do not vouch on a product/service thread without clarifying that you have purchased that product/service. User vouches should be done via the reputation system
  • Adjusted wording of 1.16.1 to Do not post or advertise revenue generating links/codes or referral links/codes in any area of the site other than the Premium ‘Begging Forum’
  • Adjusted wording of 5.4 to Do not offer or sell anything you do not own or have the right to redistribute
  • Removed several unnecessary contact detail fields
  • Removed migration date field from all account sale forums
  • Removed ability to use several phrases in user titles
Thanks for taking the time to read this announcement, I hope to see you at our UHC event on the 7th!

Mick

Poke Holing is the act of mining a 1 block tall and 4 block long hole in each direction to attempt to look for caves/resources.

First person to kill Mick/Justis I will follow on-site for a month

Oh, that makes sense a lot. Just a question I'm curious on; it was put that if someone violates any of the rules for the UHC that one gets warning points on MCM, which rule would that even violate (or term)?
From what I understand Mick plans on issuing warning points to any user that is removed from the event for cheating/excessive violation of the UHC rules, though I do not have the specifics on that.

We gave consideration to requiring a PvP client though opted against it due to OS restrictions and FPS issues for some users.

Strip mining below y32 is disallowed to encourage caving and competition. Far too many people would spend the first 40+ minutes crouched at y10 strip mining for diamonds if we let them. Disallowing it encourages people to look for caves and come up to actually compete in the event, rather than sitting underground the whole time mining. Poking holing should be allowed though, I will remove that from the rules.
