Hello!

I have a more unusual request than most posters here.

I have had a dedicated hosting with another company in the past but would like more customization options such as more memory and more hard drive space.

In order to get such things it seems as if building and running my own server might be the best way.
I am looking to Pay someone for guidance in building my own server that is run from home. There is unlimited budget and I’m looking for professional quality Minecraft specific server. This would include tips on how to keep 99% uptime, Best in class DDOS protection, best format for ssd’s, what to do if the power goes out locally, minimum internet speeds from local internet provider, or if this is even a good idea, etc.

I know many people here are just people rehosting and not running their own server but if you are, know how to, or know of someone that can help complete this please send them my way. Any help would be greatly appreciated (and paid) as finding information on this online has not been very easy.

All the best

I can give you free advice on this and the simple answer is don't do it. You can't setup best in class DDoS Protection, guarantee 100% uptime etc all from home. Datacenters have networks with 100's of Gbits of connections, redundant power, cooling etc. Doing this from home isn't possible and even if you managed it, would cost you thousands. If you really are adamant on owning your own hardware, then look into co-location with a datacenter.

In terms of DDoS Protection, you're looking at expensive network level hardware. Lets say your home network is 100Mbps, but you get hit by a 10Gbit attack. You can have the best hardware to deal with this, but your 100Mbps port is saturated - So you'll still be offline, as an example.

However in terms of Dedicated Servers there are providers out there who will offer customisation options for RAM, Drives etc.

If you're looking to host your own server and you want all of the requirements you listed, then I highly highly highly advise against hosting it at home.

A much better option if you want to own the server is to colocate the server. Colocation is where a datacenter will put your server in their datacenter and host it there for you. With colocation, you can get very good internet, DDoS protection, and the other things you listed.

Although I don't work there, I would recommend https://hivelocity.net

I believe I was quoted $74/month for a 1U server with 1gbps internet. I'm not sure if they have DDoS protection by default but you can always ask them. You can also upgrade the server and you just pay a small fee for them to install the drive, put in more ram, or do whatever.

You might get better help from another forum like https://www.webhostingtalk.com where this sort of thing is discussed more.

There’s not a 100% guarantee on uptime however they provide the best service for a decent price https://www.ovh.com/world/ for ddos protection you could enable permanent migration which has Telia always active.

That is exactly what cloud hosting is for :)

Try and search compute hosting or cloud hosting on google, find a provider to your liking (I reccomend Azure)
They offer you full customization and great support for future expansions :)
