Why? The error page is meant to make it clear that the site isn't available, you're not meant to stare at it forever until it comes back

It's making clear that they're doing maintenance which they're not. Just make it say "Website is temporarily unavailable. Please check back later" They are now misinforming us, unless they're are actually doing maintenance which I highly doubt.

You don't know a bit of what they're doing when the website is down. Besides, no business/site would make an error page stating "uh sorry guys, website is down we dont know why". Saying its under maintenance is the best ans easiest way to inform users the site is down. If it's down it's down, that's really all people need to know

Eh yeah, the website is lagging massively, and there has been no announcement about maintenance. I sure don't know whats going on, but lag != maintenance.[DOUBLEPOST=1488322550][/DOUBLEPOST]

Yes, lag =/= maintenance, that's why you don't see a maintenance page when the site is just lagging. You see a maintenance page whenever the site is presumably under maintenance because it's having issues. The lag is one thing, maintenance is completely separate.

But the maintenance page is basically replacing the 404, 403 etc. The site isn't really under maintenance right when you are visiting an old URL or something.

Rather annoying.

Even something basic that merely describes the error - or provides a handy backlink to other parts of the site.

It gives this page for banned user profiles, private user profiles, and threads that you can't view/are not logged in to view.

It's annoying.

This has been pending forever, although it's semi-important for the site.

I agree. When I first saw this error page, I thought the site was under maintenance. Checked back hours later and noticed it was still persistent. I then removed the paths from the URL and it worked. Those hours of inconvenience wasted months ago shouldn't have ever happened. How hard is it to update the error page for different situations?

This is something that I've briefly looked into and have found that this bug no longer exists (or at least I haven't been able to replicate it).

If I am mistaken and this is still an issue, then it's likely that our migration to XF2 that's occurring in a little while will fix it anyways. If that's not the case and even on XF2 the issue still persists, please open another bug report and link to this one in it.

I'll move this to the bug report archives, thank you for reporting this issue!
