Alright - I'm actually in shock.
I was taking apart my laptop (All I have since I'm saving for a PC) as it was not charging, in my eyes I thought it needed to be soldered due to a wire coming loose from the charging port.

I was watching TV, whilst doing this.
I had a screw from under the keyboard - as I was watching TV my hand slides and hits this thing:

My computer just cut out and I don't know what to do as I have client work to do.

What is it, and why did it do this,
I remember it just getting really hot and tuning off.
PLEASE PLEASE HELP.

Seems you got a shorting.
This could happend when you send electricity throught the wrong place (maybe through your screwdriver or your screw) (I know there is a better way to explain shorting, but english isnt my first language so I dont know the technical words for it)
Symptoms are usually heat and the device shutting down due to heat (to stop it from burning or worst: exploding)

You are better off sending it to repair or buying a new one, has smaller components are not easy to change with amatour equipment

Can you give me a name on it so I can call up my local computer place, it has all my files - client work with a lot of code.

What do I say?

You did open up the PC, there might have been something else you did wrong that could have caused a malfunction.
Just say you hit a component with your screwdriver on accident and the PC overheated and shut down, they will have a good idea what it is then.

Actually you can open laptops, but not under any circumstances would you want to solder your laptop yourself. Higher someone else to do it for you, that actually went to school for it and has the right materials. This $40-$80 issue might have just turned into a far greater costly issue. If you want the data from your computer simply grab the drive and a transfer cable to transfer your data to another machine.

Yeah, my dad knows how to use a soldering iron,

Moral of the story,
Don't open a laptop or work on it whilst watching TV.
Stay safe kids.

mate he's voided the warranty by opening it. The first thing the store will do is check the warranty stickers, which will have ripped from when it was opened.
