using domains for email adresses

why do people not use their own domains for email address such as @gmail.com instead of @randomdomain.ex

You need to pay for website hosting or CPanel hosting. Some people prefer to save money which is completely understandable. I personally use my business email, however before I owned the business I did use a gmail address.

Or use something like zoho, which has a free plan and works really well.

I'm not a business but I use my own domain, mainly for all websites so if I start getting spam, I can see who gave them the e-mail. It all gets forwarded to my gmail.
