What is Venezuela?
Venezuela is a country on the northern coast of South America.
Venezuela, a third larger than Texas, occupies most of the northern coast of South America on the Caribbean Sea. It is bordered by Colombia to the west, Guyana to the east, and Brazil to the south.
Why are we donating to Venezuela?
Many of you probably don't know, but Venezuela's president (dictator, but it's not official so whatever...) is Nicolas Maduro. He rigged the elections to win, he cuts electricity and water to many people (including my divorced aunt who has three kids to take care of), and spends it all on himself and the government so they continue to be on his side, plus a ton of more hideous stuff. So, this Thanksgiving + Christmas, I want to make a donation drive to Venezuela. To give all the parent's he's made lose their job, and the children who aren't as fortunate as we are to have clothing, toys, food, a place to call home, etc.
What can I donate?
As much as money is appreciated, that's not the only thing you can donate! I want you all to believe this is as real as it gets, so besides money, you can also donate aid kits, coloring books, old clothing, canned food, Christmas/Thanksgiving cards (please translate into Spanish cx), blankets, pillows, or anything that can help benefit the people over there.
How do we get items shipped and/or pay SAFELY?
So, you might be wondering, "How do we ship items to make sure they arrive safely to Venezuela" or "How do I know all money sent will be going towards Venezuela and Venezuela only? Well, 1) I will be setting up a P.O Box where you will be able to send all the care packages / items to my address, and from there, I'll put them in a box, and ship them off. I will keep the thread updated with pictures of all of your guys' donations, and me going to my local mailing department, etc. 2) I made a separate PayPal that my parents will also have access too, and I'll also make a website of the donations we've gotten, and our goal, and us spending that exact amount on other things necessary to donate.
We would like more physical donations than money, but we are setting a money goal, so my parents can transfer it from USD (U.S Dollars) to VEF (Venezuelan Bolivar) and use that to personally attempt to structure Venezuela to the beautiful place it used to be by fixing the streets, stores, malls, and that'll hopefully motivate people who actually live there that there's still chance and hope for Venezuela.
