VPS's are sometimes shared between multiple people. you can purchase ones just for yourself. but their more expensive. they have HIGH Speeds like 1000 up and download

VPS is basically where you're paying for a slice of the server, where as a dedicated gives you the whole thing.

VPS: You only get access to a part of the server, and multiple people are running their stuff on the same server.

Dedicated Servers: Dedicated servers are you have access to the whole machine and you are the only one having your stuff running on the server.

They're always shared.
Eh, you could argue that if you're the only VPS on the system, then it's not being shared, although you just don't have access to the rest of the allocated resources.

Supreme, back to your question, the choice between a dedi and a VPS is really based upon your usage for it. If you're trying to run an entire Minecraft Network from a 4GB VPS, you're gonna have a bad time. On the other hand, if you're just running a web / mail server, then there's not too much value in buying an overpowered dedicated server.

S u p r e m e, could you confirm what you want to use it for?

If it's a small server for you and your friends, and a website, then a 4-8GB VPS would be perfect. Alternatively, if it's for more people, you could look at 16GB VPS's or small 32GB dedi's. I'd personally reccomend ELHostingServices, as they're fantastic.

?

Colo (short for colocation) is where you purchase a server outright and send it to a datacentre who deal with it on your behalf. I only recommend that people colocate when they have at least 2 servers since the upfront cost + fairly high monthly cost isn't very efficient.

Ultimately, nothing of major significance, it might be best to see what hardware they use, since some hosts still use old Xeon E/X series CPUs. Go with people who have a solid reputation, and you should be fine.
