Hello!

I recently got my first VPS, at this point, I truly am not sure how to set anything up.

I am looking to host at least one Minecraft server and a website on it.

Would anyone be willing to either link me to some helpful resources or guide me through the setup process?

Thank you for your time,
- Skylord

Running a Minecraft server and website requires a decent VPS. What are the specs?
Virtualization: OpenVZ
Location: Los Angeles, CA
RAM: 4GB
Disk: 20GB RAID 10 SSD
Bandwidth: 200GB @ 1Gbps
CPU: 3 Cores @ 2GHz+
IP: 1x IPv4

The node I am on uses : Dual E5-2620 with 128GB+ RAM and 4x1TB+ SSDs

Website is easy. DO:

apt-get install -y apache2 php

Then you can put your website files in /var/www/html and you're good to go.

To install multicraft for a minecraft server. Just google "How to install multicraft Ubuntu" and you're good to go.

That's if you've installed Ubuntu, which I highly recommend, since most people know that one well.

Why are you still using Apache? It is vulnerable to Slowloris etc.

For website, do this instead:
Code:
yum install epel-release
yum install nginx

Upload files to: /usr/share/nginx/html
He is asking for help, so don't know much. I personally use Nginx, and know how much of a pain it can be sometimes. Apache is super simple, and great for beginners. Its not very optimized and does have a few flaws, but its a small minecraft site on a VPS. Its not going to be a target for people who know how do exploit it.

For something like this Apache is nice and friendly.

Actually nvm. I've been doing some research and it turns out apache is more vunrable than I had thought. Can be secured with various configuration changes. But would be less hassle just to learn how to use nginx. Since that's pretty much secure to start with.

One more question, how would I change my password?
Just run the command passwd then type whatever you want your password to be.
