VPS vs Minecraft Hosting?

I'm currently using DO for the 5$ plan which is perfect for my multiple development instances, but I'm wondering why does a VPS cost more than a MC Host. I'd be fine with 1 GB of RAM, about 10-20 GB of SSD and SSH, isn't that what mc servers are? Can any of you hosts actually provide me a private server without a minecraft panel and ssh for the same price of the mc hosts?

MC hosts don't provide SSH or any access accept console and (S)FTP. If you're already on a VPS, you're better off staying with it.

That's the thing, why do they? Why can't they isolate me, their minecraft servers are basically the same hardware specs I'd need for my VPS's.

VPS hosting costs more because there are fewer skiddy hosts driving down market prices. Just a few years ago, Minecraft hosting had similar prices to VPS hosting.

If you run a network a VPS makes more sense, if it's a single server you would probably run better on a Minecraft plan because most VPSs run on 2.4GHz Xeon's where most Minecraft plans run on 3.8GHz+.

Because then they'd be a VPS host. And I second what Lyphiard said. These low MC hosting prices (sub $1/GB, even some above $1/GB) that are oh so common on MCM are not even feasible for MC hosts. It'd be suicide to do it for VPS hosting (it already is for MC hosts).

In addition to what Lyphiard said, there's generally a little more overhead with VPS which causes an increase in price.

We can do VPS with suitable specs for Minecraft at $2.50/GB.

Each VPS needs it's on IP address, and they usually cost monthly.
Which is why they are more expensive

MarkFreak and also DO is quite expensive for the $/GB.

They can’t isolate you because then they’d be required to run many Linux operating systems instead of one. I’m a normal host (not VPS), there is one Linux operating system running all of the servers. In a VPS host, you have that same system, but it’s hosting many other Linux operating systems. This wastes precious system resources and if you need SSH access, the best you can do that isn’t a VPS is buying a dedi.
