Warning Points: Expiry

All warning points should expire after a year. We've learned our lesson, you can't expect us to not break a single rule for years.
I have warnings dating years back which hit me with suspensions and I'm now close to a ban

I just checked your warning points, and nine out of fifteen of them are repeat violations.
To say that you serve as any sort of example for “reasonable behavior” is ridiculous. There are plenty of active users that go several years without making any violations. It is in fact, not difficult to do.
The fact that you’re close to a ban is a direct consequence of your own actions. Our warning system is meant to ban users who can’t seem to learn their lesson. So I’d say it’s doing its job.

That said, I’m not against making most of our warnings expire, however, one year is definitely too soon of an expiry for a number of them. Spreading out one's toxicity doesn’t make them less toxic, and if a user is going to spreading their toxicity on our platform, they should be banned at some point.
We have no place for users who can’t respect the rules that govern the site’s usage.

Warnings should work to warn, they should have an expiration date,, e.g. 3 or 6 months, ever a year.

If repeated warnings on X timespan happen, then it's when a ban happens.

I have to say that fifteen warnings are A LOT of warning but I dont know during how many time,,

depends on the warning, i got 20 non expireable points for not providing video evidence of a receipt, photographic evidence wasnt enough

The issue with points expiring, is that people could take advantage. They can break quite a few rules, and if they are approaching the limit for a ban, stop for a while, wait until a few of their warnings have expired, then continue to cause trouble.

ALOT of mine are for creating multiple accounts which wasn't me. I've already explained it to staff and it's a long story, (hence why I'm not banned as of this moment) yet staff never cease to remove it.

This suggestion is becoming as prominent as the “Get more staff” suggestion. Yes, the staff have acknowledged that certain warning points might expire within the future, but not all of them. They’re never going to make all warning points expire because nobody in the long run would be held accountable for their actions.

You probably won't respond to this, but I disagree because of the fact that some warnings are dealt to people who don't deserve them. One of my warnings was for warning a spammer to get off my thread or I'd neg rep him. Apparently I threatened him with a neg rep so I got a ridiculous 5 warning points. They don't expire. I understand that not all warning points should expire, but most should. And I think a year is enough for someone to learn their lesson. Leaking resources, etc., should be longer than a year, but for giving people non-expiring warning points just for politely asking someone to not trash your thread... ridiculous. This might have gotten too personal, but I agree that every warning should expire. It doesn't have to expire fast, but it should expire.

I'm going to suggest a system that works very well on another forum I use regularly.

5 warnings in less than 3 months (perhaps 6 months if you're feeling a bit harsh) = a 1 week ban.

Each warning after that ban causes a 3 day ban, if you get several warnings at once then it's a consecutive 3 day ban for each of them.

When you have less than 5 warnings in the last 3 months, it goes back to the previous system.

Temporarily banning people is almost always more effective than just suspending their ability to post on some sections. Justis

Does that system weigh in the rules being broken? For example, if a user advertises twice before the 20 minute interval, are they to be held on the same level as say someone who advertises a competitor?

Since the time this suggestion was made we have made every single warning expire, and a full list of expiry times can be found on our wiki.

There have been a bunch of suggestions like this, and I can't accept them all.
