By this I mean when you reach out to a freelancer, do you prefer them to be extremely professional (spelling, grammar, etc.) OR where they type normally / casually (lowercase, not professional etc) like a normal convo

Both at the same time.
By that I mean, not:
"pp is [email protected], send 20"
But, also not:
"Hello, my good sir! Today you shall be purchasing an account from myself for use within the Minecraft video game, if I am not mistaken in this notion. Please, at a time convenient to us both, I request that thou bestoweth upon me twenty virtual units of U.S legal tender (known as dollars within the country) via the online banking and currency transferring service known as "PayPal", under the "Goods and Services" option. Thank you for your business in this transaction, I look forward immensely to any and all future deals with you."

As I get contacted on a regular basis, I'll chip in. Personally I let the other person set the tone for the conversation. If they go above and beyond being formal, they usually have good intentions and I'm willing to give that person just a bit more attention. Very few people have been super formal or professional as this is a block game forum filled with teens that are just getting their first few dollars and burning it with 'I have $3 offer me' threads. As conversations extend past their initial message they tend to get very casual, very quickly. I've only had maybe two people over four years continuing to add their closer/footer at the end of each message. I've never considered being professional a bad thing though, it definitely helps set you up with a habit that will be beneficial long term.

I believe there is a balance, when I do my selling I try to be somewhat professional in the beginning but as the deal goes on I tend to lax a bit on my grammar and the buyers don't tend to mind.
