Hi there,

My name is Cyber, I am a High School Senior and I am getting ready to graduate very soon (though COVID-19 is gonna fuck it over). With that being said, because I really don't want to go to college or pursue anything that could be worse for me in the future, I feel that I should join a branch. Every branch obviously has their benefits, but if you don't mind, answer my poll and comment down below what branch you think I should join and why.

Anything but the army, I come from a military family and a few of them think recruiters are not straight forward (ie: lie) about what job you can get put into. I'd say marines, or the navy, maybe?

I almost got tricked by an Army recruiter myself honestly, but though I was given 2 options by my grandfather, I figured I would ask anyways.

I dont think you should let the community decide this for you - but I would say the Airforce.

Hello there,

I am actually in the Air Force. In just January, I put on SrA. I think you'll enjoy it, as I have what some say is the shittiest AFSC in the field, security forces. I still enjoy my career though, as I'm stationed at a LE base in the west coast. 3 years in, I make ~2100/mo (BAS included) + ~1160 for BAH (basically of you live off base and out of the dorms). I share a house with some roommates and only pay 500 so I'm getting roughly 2600/mo as SrA 3 years. Though 1k goes to savings each month, about 750 for bills, such as car/insurance and other things, and maybe another 150-250 for food/gas. Depending on how you finance, save and expend money, you can pocket an easy $1,500 a month and still live well enough.

BMT is a cake walk and is very babied up. The first few weeks are immunizations/medical appointments. PT, facing movements/formations and ceremonies. I would say BMT is your "worst" experience. Tech School was fun but differs on your AFSC, and then off to wherever they need you for your first duty station. Though you do get a preference list in BMT.

If you want more thorough answers and experiences, just hit me up on Discord @ em#0001, it's hard to type all I'm trying to think of on mobile

I used to be in AFJROTC, so I did actually enjoy it back then; however, with my time running out, it can be stressful, you know?

Understood,

I'm not sure how DEP would be with this Covid bs going about. I would say that you can put your foot in the door but if I recall, recruiters like to get you in with what they can offer. They'll make everything sound appealing unless you get a true honest recruiter. Open-general is the common mistake for most probably though it usually funnels down into security forces or munitions, and depending on who you are, some love it and some dread it.

You'll have a lot of great memories in the Air Force. Just know that your initial response to BMT on the first-third weeks are probably going to be "I just made the worst life decision" but after I got through that threshold, I realized what it had to offer. You get the best medical and educational benefits with your Montgomery and GI bill of you choose to use them of course. I'll try to categorize it like this, BMT is your initial hell. Tech school is like college, really fun and you'll have a lot to learn in x amount of time. Mine was only 3 months, but I loved it. Your first duty station is your home. You'll make all your friend and connections there usually. Like I said too, the pay is good as long as you are disciplined with yourself with money. Set a certain goal for savings, keep up with your bills and build your credit, and have an extra savings plan for the fun things you want, like a built PC, room accessories, other recreational activities or toys.

I would say the common blow of money on early airmen is alcohol, eating out constantly instead of cooking or grocery shopping, and spending each paycheck on big things at a time.
