it's a good build, but i would go with a i5 processor, to save more money
An i7 will benefit in performance and will help especially playing minecraft. Plus the cost of the machine is still under budget, I don't think any reductions are needed.

Not sure how heavy your gaming is, however for music, simply get a really good CPU (i7-4790k is great) and a good amount of RAM (16GB is fine). You can probably downgrade from the 960 graphics card to something like a 770 or 760. Both are really good and can run most games.

Fuck buying windows, you'll get Win10 free in 3 days anyways.

You don't need a sound card unless you'll be working with amps and multiple speakers. Personally, I've got 2 speakers connected with 1 mini-jack cable along with a USB headset, I've yet to seen the need for a sound card. Just because you make music doesn't necessary mean you need a sound card, I'm a living proof.

Nobody uses CDs anymore, just use a USB for booting.

If you don't know what desktop to get, then get anything..

Whatever you can afford and whatever gives you more for your money.

simple.

i7 and 16 gb is over board for gaming..
GTA V will run on less than 6 GB if you have a good graphics card, and certainly would run on a smaller processor, like the i5 (which is MUCH more power efficient) Although, I am not a fan of the 'i' series.
