I had only bought 1 slot before and it didn't bring me in a ton of people. However, it was a smaller voting site. But, I think the best way to get more players is TWITTER! Social medial is booming now adays! I had one of my players who only has 1k subs tweet out our server and we got over 30+ new players to join within minutes! We had 22+ players on today for a solid 2 hours or so. So, I don't find slots worth it in my opinion. Twitter, Instagram, facebook, and just random websites etc... are the best way to get more players!
