I'm not an old member on mc-market, But i've noticed a large number of people attempting to make their own server, that either failed or will fail in the future. Like, Seriously i've seen people offering 10$ to people that can come up with a name to their upcoming network. like, what?
What do you guys think makes a good server owner?

you gotta be creative, i’ve seen hundreds of the same server, same features, same setup. You got to take a idea and make it your own. That’s what will make it special and keep players. like Hypixel skyblock, it was something new that not everyone has seen. genius.

I had server on the past (60 players most of the time and 160 players on peak times) and I never bought any logo, setup, build, or anything for it... Just built it by myself with the help of others

And I can make that happen again and even bigger when I want to...

If you really want to be successful on this, you don't want to build a server, they key is to focus on building a community.

What it really takes is consistency and authenticity, you want to make your server in a way that it's really fun to play, put yourself on the player perspective, would you like to play in your server for a lot of hours and be part of the community? Yeah...

You want to make sure that your server is really enjoyable, enough for the players to spend hours and hours playing on it, interacting with other members, having real fun... And make sure that you take care of the whole community/technical issues/problems every single day, with real dedication..

Have in mind that at the beginning you'll most probably not see a big increase in your community/player base, it takes time...

And also you need to spend a lot on advertising, but just do it and be smart, it'll clearly pay off later.

It's not that you just decide to buy a host, a setup, logo and all of that... This takes time and effort...

Yeah, that's just some of my POV's... Hope this help you in your journey to owning a big Minecraft Network, I wish you success

Ignore the people that say you need a lot of money to make a successful server, you don't.
I have, multiple times, started a successful server for less than $50.
Yes, if you want to be big the second you open, you'll need money (or smart and creative marketing methods) to get your players for the launch, but otherwise, you can fairly quickly grow organically, with votes and word-of-mouth.
I've reached 200-300 concurrent players, without spending a single cent on any kind of promotion.

My current server was started for $10. I just got some shit hosting, and started creating my idea. My idea was a very custom prison server, with a friendly community. It worked, the server grew fairly quickly from just votes and word-of-mouth, all for $10. The reason it worked is because I had the determination, the knowledge and experience, and a good idea, that I was able to execute properly.
The fact that I was able to develop all of the required plugins myself certainly helped, but that also didn't cost me anything to learn.
Money just makes things easier, but you don't need a lot of money to get going in the right direction.

There's two ways to make your server successful, you don't need both.
- a lot of money
- a good reason for people to be on your server.

If you're not super experienced, or just don't have a lot of money, the second option is the better one.
You need a reason for people to be on your server.
The reason can be anything, but the most common ones are:
- Good content. Good content makes people have fun, and stay for longer.
- A good community. The content doesn't even have to be that good, if your community is good. If people make friends on your server, they might stick around just because of that.

In the end, the only thing between you and a successful server (or a successful anything) is determination.
If you REALLY want something, then you'll find out how to achieve it, and not stop trying until you achieve it.

Don't have $10 to get hosting? Make $10, there's many ways. If you can't be bothered to earn $10 so that you're able to to start what you want to start, then don't try at all, because you will fail without the determination.
