As already stated by a few others, HCF is hardcore Factions, for the most part it's a fairly popular game mode. The concept is that you mine, farm and do all the normal minecraft stuff to gather materials and brew potions so you can go pvp against other factions. For more in depth I would watch a few painfulpvp videos so you can kinda get the point

A Minecraft server based on basic survival as well as combat, both by brute force and strategy. Other elements of the game include passive existence, be it by trading or simply just playing the server, or being a small mercenary faction to aid the major powers of the map. A deathban based on playtime as well as a deaths until raidable system is utilitzed, and it was the very first Hardcore Factions server.
