What location should I host my server from? (US or SG)

Hello,

I'm having a bit of a dilemma, I'm from south east asia (w/ very slow internet) and I'm not sure if I should host my server on the west coast of US, or Singapore.

Here's some pros and cons I thought about each:

US:
+Appeals to more people, larger community
+Cheaper hosting
-A lot of competition
-I'll have lag sometimes

Singapore:
+I get better ping
+Smaller competition(?)
-Expensive hosting
-Smaller community

I'll probably have a semi-vanilla server and try to form a tight knit community, and get at least enough money to run it not from my pocket.

So basically the pros for the other are the cons for the other, could anyone give me their suggestion/s?

I dont really understand what you mean about smaller/bigger competition. Anywhere you host everyone will be able to connect from anywhere they would just get more ping is some areas. To be honest I think you should go for america. Lots more people live there and will connect there than singapore. To have a successful server you need to focus on the player experience not your own.

I mean like there's loads more us servers compared to sg. I'll take that into mind, thanks!

You should host in america. All major servers are located and like you said more people will play. Dont host it in Singapore because you get better ping. Think about the server do what would be better for everyone
