What makes people want to buy ranks?

Hey everyone. I'm running a community survival server expecting around 20-30 players, and I want to ask what do you think makes people buy ranks? I ran a server before and it didn't make a lot of money, but right now I am considering going back and I want to at least stay in the positives even if I'm not in it for the money. What do you think is the difference between a server that can sell ranks and a server that can't?

A cool & unique server that players want to support.
I play frequently on a server that averages 500 players, and have bought the top rank for myself and all my friends.
The perks of the ranks aren't great, but the server is a really cool, unique and fun idea - This makes me personally want to donate.

Make a small donation role and add a bunch of cosmetic features geared towards players who frequent your server and want to help keep it alive. This would be an easy way to get some initial money to expand your server and make it better. Just a thought

Almost always cause I want to support the server, not because I actually want the rank. But I'm not sure how widespread that approach is.

Make a rank that would help upgrade any player's experience on the server. Maybe if you do not have fly enabled as default you could give that as a perk to Ranked users which might interest builders on purchasing it.

Maybe a perk which might interest miners like inventory sort or night vision and stuff.

You could even add cosmetics of course. People Love Cosmetics.

I once purchased a rank on a server as they limited the creation of shops and at that time I was a popular seller in the server so I pretty much just purchased a rank to be able to create 30 more shops so there's just 30 more items that I could sell.

Pretty much just that. Make Ranks soo good that people would consider buying them for something they want in that particular Rank.

As a server owner I buy ranks if I want to support the srever however players will want it for bragging rights so make sure to make it flashy but not so p2w that normal players don't want to play. Also always add a recurring payment for the top rank if you want to earn that cash

It all depends on the perks and most importantly the price. If i like the server, it makes me more inclined to purchase a rank on there. If i were to be able to get many perks for fairly cheap, that's another bonus. Most of the time i will also look and see how many other people own the rank i am considering to purchase.

Firstly, you need a server that people fall in-love with. Summarising the posts before this, they've all said a similar thing, People donate if they like the server. So focus on creating the best experience for your players and the profit will come along-side if you monetise the server correctly.

In my opinion, I HATE P2W servers that give people a million crate keys, money etc, I'm much more inclined to donate if I see genuine love has been put into the making of the server over one that is clearly there for a quick buck.
