Hello there!

I am currently looking into the newer MC versions to use as the base of a server. But I am wondering what versions are played the most. I'm currently leaning towards the 1.19 version ( this will be the native version ). But if there are any suggestions, let me know :)

1.19 servers can be connected to with clients down to 1.7.10 with via-rewind and via-backwards. 1.7.10 servers can be connected to with clients up to 1.19 with via-version. Point is, your server's version doesn't necessarily prevent clients with other versions from connecting.

What you need to think about, though, is the features of your server and which version is best suited for it. There are obviously mechanics, blocks, textures, etc that are unique to the newer versions. It also comes down to which plugins you're wanting to use and whether they have a build for that version.

So in conclusion, it doesn't actually matter that much. But if you're starting a new server I'd always recommend building on the most recent version.
I would consider using the new blocks. But those are not supported by lower versions or is there a solution for that?

This is the limitation of running a server at an earlier version.

There nothing you can do to introduce 1.19 blocks into an older client without the use of client-side mods. Players using an older client on your 1.19 server would see an alternate texture to new blocks
Oh well, I’ll try to create something refreshing so that even 1.8 players don’t mind joining with 1.19. That version has everything I am looking for + enough plugin support.

99% of players stuck on 1.8 only care for the PvP/movement mechanics and if your server doesn't have a plugin that attempts to emulate those mechanics on 1.19, they probably won't join anyway...
Oh well, there’s a market for everything. Thanks for your suggestions and help!

You'd be surprised how many servers are running on 1.7.10. A lot of older mods were abandoned by their owners after the modding gold rush ended around 2014. There is still a sizeable audience for servers running these older modifications. Unfortunately, few large servers (over 100+ active players) are running this version - but that might be for the better.

Oh yeah for sure. Played 1.7.10 a lot when HCF was at the highest peak.
