So basically, I'm obsessed with being online, its awesome! And thats how I want my career to be, I want a job where I can work fully online however, I'm not sure what would be a good idea to pursue. I have a few options, I will list them below with a description, I will use this market to become better at them.


Art - I love the concept of art, many designers on this site made it apparent to me how creative/amazing your designs can be

Pros
I'm creative
I can accept criticism
I can stick to something
I really like art
Cons
Probably doesn't matter because practice makes perfect but I suck at art currently Kappa



Game development - I love the idea of making games, I have so many ideas just I'm not able to bring them into reality.

Pros
I feel like I would be good at it because of my experience on servers editing sourcecodes etc
I am creative
I can accept criticism
I can stick to something
Cons
The computer science classes in my school are shite
Very competitive career choice




These are my 2 current ideas, I would love if you guys could open my eyes to more or criticize/give feedback on my current ideas thanks alot!

You'd be better off going out in the real world to get hands-on experience then trying to find careers souly online at your age.
Try some experience first, not saying something like fast food. But basic experience so you can get your head around working, payments, and team communication.

In my opinion, I want to work online, but it isn't practice because it's easier to do depending on the job since you don't have to move from your computer. I like to work in something that would be challenging myself. "realistic goals". Wanting to be online 24/7 isn't good for your health either. Try incorporating working online with something. Like business management. Become a leader, watch videos, take initiative in things. Start a small business where you can market things to customers and then sell them.

But in reality, I wouldn't settle for running an online career with the little to no experience you have at the moment.

Same as the above, also I have a fair bit of experience in sales SEO, advertisement etc due to owning servers with up to 800 playerbases. However, the 2nd paragraph I found a lot of help in, that was awesome thanks a lot!
Get you a marketing degree you can do a lot of work at home with a degree in that.

Don't do art unless you wanna be poor.
Depends on what art you do, 3d artists for games etc make a lot.
No artist will make a 6 or 7 figure salary. Please elaborate on how I'm clueless.

I honestly believe a good start is looking at portfolios of what you're interested in and do studies of work you like and look into what goes into those works. For example if you were to look at concept art portfolios look at how they deal with light sources and depth perception and all the other technical blah blah.

If you want to get into art to sell logos on here or whatever thats just... i think just go bonkers? look at what you like that other people do and look at how they make stand out, whats commonly liked by customers etc. I think working on here has helped me develop styles outside what i usually work on/do and you have to do so much you cant stop learning really.

If you want to make games that would be cool, theres a lot that goes into them so maybe try to work with someone/a friend to create something together so you have something to build a portfolio with and also get some experience. I've seen a lot of people team up to do that on PMC, they never seem to complete but they get experience and some useful portfolio from it.

Even then you're pretty young you've got ages 'til you need to think about being serious about it.

I'm 21 and i realised i want to do something in the creative field only this year and i'm not going to a university specialising in games and film industry and i'm doing short courses for concept art and they're amazing at helping you get started. So i guess later down the line if you want to be serious try looking for a specialised uni wherever you are.... but from personal experience they're pretty rare or the courses are NOT what they say they are.

Just dont get stuck in a hole, keep developing your work and do different things. Try 3D modelling in maya for games, try using substance painter to learn how to texture, use 3D models you made to draw over to make concept art/illustrations, study different styles you dont even like. Just have fun with it whilst you still can haha

Thanks so much! This is a really really helpful post, I really like everything said here, one part everyone says for good reasoning is about my age, its a funny comment, I don't really believe people should be limited to what they should do because of there age, I want to start on something now, so my the time I decide pursue it I'm the best I can possibly be :)

No lol. A 3D artist doesn't make a lot of money. None of these artists are making a lot of money, especially considering a lot of those kinds of jobs are based in California. Also, you arent designing the Facebook logo, sorry to crush your dreams.
