You should have a basic understanding of linux systems, internet networking, and java. For example, if you try to hire a java developer without having any understanding of java, you won't know what to look for in a developer and you won't be able to connect well with that developer.

People who try to sound a lot smarter than you and don't try to communicate at your level are generally scammers or really toxic.
