I am not sure if anyone else has noicted this, but how are people deciding what hosting company's to pick?

There are so many of them around, some of these company's are like a pop-up abortion clinic, one month here and another gone.

Ive recently been looking to change hosts (I've changed hosts now), and I was overwhelmed by the options. I've seen crudely made websites and get 100's vouches and amazing websites get 10 vouches. The sites that look big budget don't seem to make squat.

So, to you buyers of shared minecraft servers, what makes you want to purchase from a website?

Honestly, I just speak to friends who are owners of big servers/networks and see what hosting companies they use and what they would recommend for someone just starting out.

Do you get what I mean though, I picked serverworld in the end. Because they look professional, and I could see their activity.
But, most people put one thing up and wala money.

I just buy dedicated servers from large companies like OVH. I don't mind paying for way more than I use, because there is no way I'd trust any of the hosts on here with my servers. Given some are better than others, but some are just awful. If you have the funds, I'd always recommend buying a dedi. If that's not an option, then a $2.5+ host that's been around for at least a few months should be okay. Never go with a host that's just opened, most are gone within a month, and some haven't even secured multicraft, so I've been able to download their multicraft database straight from a browser.

Once you've cut all the bad hosts out, the ones that are left are very much the same. SSD's, Usually Xeon E5 with 64GB RAM, or an E3 with 32GB RAM nodes. Good DDoS protection, 1Gbps uplink etc. Just a matter of picking one that looks good, then changing if they turn out not to be.

Any hosting company that is advertising their services on MCM is most likely going to go bankrupt within 6 months. If you're serious about hosting a server, you should be purchasing from a large host, with dedicated servers such as, OVH, ReliableServers, etc... If you're looking for a server for just you and your friends to have fun on, feel free to purchase from ANY host on MCM and just make sure to backup your files for when they go under.

It's really a shame. I feel bad for all the people that go to one of those hosts (we call them "kiddie hosts") and loose their files a month or two later with no warning.

Very intriguing that many hosts similar to your, "Non Kiddie Host" < I'm assuming you refer to yourself as, that comment on these posts bashing other hosts when what really separates your host?

When embarking on a project, creating a company, selling a product, or anything of that nature, the most important question to ask is, "What separates my product from everyone elses?" Why would anyone go to TigerNode? Is it your great pricing compared to the equipment you retain? No, because I could easily find 5 other hosts in 5 minutes that sell at 3$ a GB. Is it your great customer support? Considering most intelligent people don't really need to contact customer support for hosting issues, unless it's regarding downtime or custom jars, it's unlikely that's why. Do you offer anything that a larger more substantial business cannot offer, most likely not. Why would anyone go with TigerNode versus, lets say a long time running and strong host such as BeastNode?

The fact of the matter is, majority of Minecraft hosting customers do require support and help uploading plugins. It's important someone's there to answer their questions right away - something we're able to do, and some bigger companies with similar prices to ours cannot. Right now we're using Multicraft, however we have a custom control panel underway that I think people will really love. Among other things, we're constantly working to improve our product and separate ourselves from the crowd. If you have further questions feel free to PM me.

You want to make sure the company is registered. If they have insanely low prices, that means that they don't have that much economical skills, unless they are renting a dedicated server that is complete trash. I can see what you mean by one month and they are gone, it's insane how they leave customers in the dusk.
Let's take our company, Knabix Host. We just got registered yesterday as an official company, and we wouldn't want to leave that behind. Our prices are fit for $3.00 per GB, so we can make a little bit of profit to purchase better equipment with, and improve our overall service. We have already stayed up for a few months, and plan to stay up for even longer. :)
I dunno how a registration makes that much of a difference m8

A online business...well you have no real infrastructure, uses PayPal...markets to underage people...okay is this a useless registration.

Great, so when your looking for hosts you look for reasonable pricing etc. Not like $1.50/GB. That's really good information, anyone have other input?

A test server usually helps which gives you the ping of the server which could be connected to hardware and/or location

Test servers could be put on a high quality VPS, cheap and good ping. See the deceit in hosting these days. I could list ways to make a test server amazing to make you buy from my Intel core duo server..

Depends, you can always request a test server on the same node your server would be hosted on.

For example, the test server they gave you, is 217.4.19.105, and after ordering all out of sudden your get a server with the ip 191.117.192.215, and the load times are wayy off compared to the test server you have received you'll most likely know what is going on.

Kind Regards,
Davy

I can agree on that. Honestly it does not make sense to mess with potential customers like that, the only thing it will do is make the potential customer leave, and if you're unlucky and he gives his opinion on the host, it will give you a bad reputation aswell. which means even a smaller chance of gaining new customers.

Most legit companies that start up these days, don't have a chance because of over sellers. I disagree on selling a service and only providing half, because of oversell and the containing utilization of multicraft.
