Best way to start is learning how to use IntelliJ and knowing how to do research. Learn Maven and etc... Eclipse IDEA sucks.

Just find some tutorials, I don't have experience with Java. But I do with Skript, I just looked at tutorials and I know how to Skript now. So I'm guessing it's pretty much the same with Java.
