I really love Premiere Pro, although it does take some practice to get used to, but the ability to be both very surface level and very detailed at the same time are very valuable to me.

Final Cut Pro X. If you're using a mac (which all sane people do).

I don't agree with most of you guys. I have used Vegas Pro for quite a while, but ever since I moved onto Premiere, I can't and will never go back. Surely it can take a few more days to get used to it, but it's so much practical and easier to work with in the long run. I've also heard very good things about DaVinci Resolve and I plan on trying it out real soon. But yeah, Premiere is perhaps your best choice if you're a beginner.

Also, video editing isn't just about technical knowledge. It requires a huge amount of creativity and a strong mindset which can only come with practice.

Adobe Premiere Pro (really good especially for vlogs!)
Davinci Resolve (amazing for vlogs and in movie production)

Sony Vegas is the easiest, but quite limited in terms of things you can do.
Premiere Pro is a step up, but still a little limited.
After Effects is the best, but hardest to learn. It'll have pretty much everything you need for making videos/trailers, even though it's mostly used for composition.
