For starters, I went off the grid in 2020 for over a year, & I was planning a big comeback for as soon as possible.

Furthermore, I wanted to comeback in the form of releasing my biggest video project yet, which included interacting with my idol for the first time, who's a celebrity.

The obstacle was that I wanted the solo talking portion of the video to feature an animation of my (Minecraft) character doing such. Something I only recently had gotten into, which means if I wanted it done well, or professionally, I had to hire someone else to do it. And what better place did I think to look other than MC-Market (Currently known as Built By Bit)?

To my regret, the real challenge is that I didn't have a budget available to commission anyone. So the goal was not only to find someone up for the task, but willing to volunteer to do it.

As you can imagine, assuming you know the general "attitude" of the community, if you will, this led me to a series of being turned away, dismissed, & clowned, even. Hell, once the "video production" side of the community caught on to the fact that I was asking quite a number of them to take on this portion of an important project, I was accused of trying to scam them.

After a number of rejections that had occurred in a number of different ways (I could list the scenarios but I'll try to keep this short for now), I felt obligated to look in other areas, while also continuing my search for someone within MCM who's willing to do it. It was a several month long process that involved me constantly having to push back the desired deadline of the video's release. All for the simple fact that animation is no simple task, especially if you're looking for 5-10 minutes worth of frames. My first animation was nearly 2 minutes long, & my next one after that was about 5 minutes long, so I get it.

But it's not only that, since it was the highlight of my experience, I have to acknowledge that there's a cutthroat nature when it comes to these types of environments. Everyone wants to get the best deal, make the most money, & spend their time the wisest. Now, everyone has their own story, situation, goal, or need that may cause them to overlook everything else, but here's a hot take:

What if we treat the connections we make like human beings?

MC-Market/Built By Bit is a community, meaning a group of people with a specific characteristic or interest in common. While it's possible to play with the semantics of the term, one keyword that will always be relevant is the term people. We're not all just business connections, potential customers, or one-way beneficiary "opportunities". We're also people behind screens who share the same want for success.

Success in this case can mean a lot of things. Maybe that means creating content, slowly building a platform of our own, or meeting a quota by the end of the month for our business, but what about looking past "What does this person have to offer me & how can I benefit from them?" What about "How can I help this person reach their goal, in spite of their predicament?", namely when money is off the table?

If you ask me, a community at heart is people who can relate to one another. I was fortunate enough to stumble upon someone who was able to come to an agreement with me, because we understood each other. And as a result, without having to scrap the idea (like I was told) or do the animation myself at a lesser quality, I was able to release the video exactly how I wanted.

And I couldn't be any more prouder of it.

Moral of the story, try not to limit the possibilities of interacting with new clientele on Built By Bit to "if it's not making me money/doing XYZ for me, it's wasting my time."

One might also say be more considerate overall, whether that's meeting them halfway (/where you see fit) or politely turning them down.
(The various ways in which I was unprofessionally door-slammed wasn't a pleasant experience. One person rejected my proposition passive-aggressively & removed me abruptly because I didn't work for Logan Paul directly.)

Hope you all enjoy the video! It's gotten the most positive feedback on my channel.

P.S. Sorry for the lengthy post..
