Which gamemode should I choose?

I'm looking to get back into server ownership, and so I need to know which gamemode to pick to start from. It should preferably be easy to set up and expandable, as my skills are quite rusty in the realms of configuration. What should I choose?

What gamemodes do you see as an option?
How about factions / skyblock?

Just saying, with the mindset “preferably be easy to set up” you most likely won’t become very popular if that’s your goal.

I don't mean it in the "I'm really lazy" sort of way, I mean more to get it working and customise easiest, instead of changing numerous config files for every little detail. We picked skyblock, anyway, since that is the gamemode we are most experienced with.
