Why do servers cost more in the USA than in Europe?

Hello :)

I am currently looking for a hoster in America where I can host my server. I noticed that I almost pay double for the same service I get in Europe in the Usa.

Could someone tell me why this is like that?

High performance, consistent uptime and fast support. Minecraft hosting that just works.

most likely because the usa is the main playerbase of minecraft. Hosters would take advantage of this and charge more (In return can get more players or faster server for more players)

I don't quite agree. When I consider that Germany has the 2 highest number of players according to my knowledge. And there the servers are cheaper than in NA

If you're referring purely to Minecraft hosting, you have providers like Hetzner and Contabo offering dedicated/virtual servers at rock bottom prices in the EU, so many hosts can get their nodes there for cheaper.

Meanwhile in the USA, dedicated servers and network connectivity generally costs more, so hosts have to charge their customers more money to offset their higher expenses.

It's recommended to host your server in EU rather than in the US or NAE. Because EU servers have been proven to be more stable in every way as US servers have more outages and issues than EU ones.
I don't know where you're getting that information from, but that's blatantly false.

If you have a US playerbase hosting in the EU will do you no favors.

So it would seem. I have players from the EU and players from Australia and NA. At the moment, players from Australia and NA have a pretty high ping and since I want to reduce it for our community, I have to rent a server in the USA.

Maybe one of you could recommend good providers in Australia and NA to me.

How big is your server?

I know some servers attempt to get the best connection by setting up two or more Bungee servers. So for example, you can set one up in the USA and another one in the EU and possibly a third in Australia.

Then, you'd host your main server where your main player base is located. So if 60% of your players are from the EU, 30% from the US, and 10% from Australia, you can pick your main server to be hosted in the EU.

The US players would then connect to the US Bungee server, which proxies them over to the EU server. If you choose your hosts correctly, then the connection between your US Bungee and EU Game server will be a lot better than if the player were to connect from the US to the EU Game server directly on his/her residential connection. This is especially true when you pick the same host that has an internal network backbone (ie. using OVH for all locations).

At the moment we have about 30-40 players at the beginning of the server it was 70%EU and 20-30% from outside the EU. This has changed over the last time but at the moment there are about 40% from the EU, 50% from NA and 10% from Australia.

At the moment we still host at a smaller provider because they made us an offer. But we are thinking about changing to OVH at the moment.
