Why does there need to be a compliance officer?

Why muck things up with specific roles to do a job that's not very difficult? It's not exactly rocket science to look at "evidence", ask for the other side of the story, and then make a decision. That's what is done 99% of the time.

This should just be a responsibility of the mod team. If your mods aren't competent to do the task or feel they can't be bothered, maybe new mods should be explored.

Mods have to moderate, and that takes time. They wouldn't have time to moderate as well as solve scam reports.

Well I think having a specific rank to deal with scam reports proves more efficient towards keeping scammers away. Having moderators dealing with scam reports would only slow them down.

Not really. Nothing on this forum deters scammers. Having 4 or 5 mods collectively working on scam reports is better than 1 compliance officer.

There's a reason why any organisation has specialized roles. Even if all the members are capable of doing all tasks, it is often more efficient to have each member focus on a specific task. For instance, Baum seems to hang out in the builds-related sections a lot, while Anthony was obviously mostly involved in the scam reports. They could both do each other's roles as well, but that would mean each of them would have to focus on 2 things instead of one. That might mean less work per section to focus on, but if you scale it up from 2 different things to 5 different sections/tasks, it begins being complex.
