I see so many threads about people wondering, how much money does it cost to make a server? How do I make a successful server?

The answer is, just don't make one. Here's the thing. The minecraft server industry is simply so saturated and so competitive that it's not worth your time unless you have a fuck load of money to burn. If you want money, learn a skill, and sell it here, or look into investing in stocks or altcoins. It's a much better use of your money.

Some of what you're saying may be true but if you have the time, passion and skills to develop a unique server, you will most likely be some what successful. This is mainly because players are currently looking for unique gameplay features which cannot be found on any other server and if you have these features, players will most likely stick around on your server for a long time.

Making a unique server requires a shit ton of custom plugins, which goes back to the idea of money, and you need a huge youtuber to promote that.

I hate threads like this. While I agree that starting a server is pointless who do you think you are telling people what to do. Who cares let people do what they want. Just because you lack the creativity and resources to do something doesn't mean everyone else shouldn't do it.

The simple solution is: Don't be a lazy piece of shit, and don't expect to make a profit in your first year of being a server owner. If you can't find the money to hire people to do shit, learn how to do it yourself. You're not gonna be a genius server owner the first time you try it, but if you never try you're never gonna get better either.

If all you're planning to run a server for is making money, you might as well try something else, which will undoubtedly net you more over a period of 5 years than even running a successful server. But if you actually ENJOY making and running servers, then it might be worth a shot.

In addition, those that are willing to pour in a lot of money and do things differently might still stand a decent chance. With Microsoft implying they'll officially support certain servers in the future by loosening the EULA (see Lifeboat network on Bedrock Edition), it's no longer as hopeless as it was before that became implied.

What you're basically saying is that you're sick of the dozens and dozens of kids trying to run a server to make money with. That's what I agree with you on. What I don't agree is that therefore, EVERYONE should just stop trying. Running a server is pretty much like running a business. If you're willing to run the risk and put effort and money into it, you might as well go for it. You might not succeed, but the experience will be a useful one either way.

It's totally possible to have a good and active server if you have a good active team, a will to succeed, unique features, a quality server, and a positive community :)
Couldn't say it any better myself.

Money and unique features only cover about 40% of what goes into a server.
I've seen completely thrown together, zero effort servers make it rather far simply by having a strong advertising ability/marketing plan and an efficient, experienced staff team. I've also seen the exact opposite, very well designed, unique, and overall highly impressive servers fall apart due to their failure to be able to advertise and have an experienced staff team.

I think you're missing my point. I insulted you to show you that freedom of speech is not one sided. You were trying to say that because of freedom of speech you are allowed to say what you want which is true but freedom of speech also allows anyone to disagree with whatever you say which you don't seem to understand.
Know what, I understand now. You're right. I still don't think you should use ad hominem if you disagree.

Very well said Ivain. But its just from what I've seen there are few servers with a lifespan of more than a few months, if that. All I'm trying to say is, while it could be worth it if you're smart and have the resources, that's a rare scenario these days.

So that should stop people? Dozens of small businesses fail every trimester, yet people keep trying, because they might as well succeed.

Did you know, the creators of Angry Birds, one of the most successful mobile games ever, had around 50 failed mobile games before making Angry Birds?

Revise this thread to:
If you have $100, dont make a server.

Claims are worthless with no evidence to back said claims up.
