So, for once this sort of thread's started not with the intention of inciting rage and starting a flame war but to gather the opinions of the community and the reasons therein.

I'm starting this thread because it's about time for me to move to a new machine. I've been on a MacBook since 2017, and was on a Windows laptop prior. I'm actually writing this from a Windows laptop (not mine, borrowed) because I wanted to really immerse myself and give it a fair shot. I thought it may be interesting to hear some other people's suggestions and opinions. I want to stay on laptops though, no desktops; it's just more practical for me.

EDIT: I think it'd be noteworthy to add that the whole reason I'm considering the move is because of games. I miss being able to run games. Games are fun, you know?

Thank you kindly,
Red

I am currently using a windows PC but have used Mac in the past as well. I would have to say Mac just due to how well it fits into the apple ecosystem with all my other devices. I would say if you have a lot of other Apple devices then it would be worth going with apple again as it all links really well together.

In regards to my latest post(s), I've made a better explanation.
I own a 2 monitor gaming setup (windows ofc), and I use a Mac for school. In terms of recording a video, I'd say go for a mac since it is more smooth. However, windows for playing games alone & using websites such as this one. Really any of them, but you'll lag more on Mac.

MACOS is good for the optimisation and for it's own ecosystem amongst other Apple devices. Being able to co-exist and "link" with the other devices so you don't have to have every single device at your hands to access what you need.

Alternatively, MacOS is complete and utter shit in terms of their hardware. Their devices work well because of how MacOS is optimised but as soon as any applications are not optimised for their operating system, their device completely shuts down because it's still running on 5 year old components/technology.

Video editing? Gaming? Multitasking? Live streaming? Developing? All of these are not good advancements for Apple. They lack the processing power to do any of these tasks efficiently. They can still do it though, don't get me wrong, just not well.

(For PC) I don't understand why you can't pay the same price for way better/modern specifications and just install MacOS like many have done before ("Hackintosh").

I agree with all these remarks. I have to say apple is a great ecosystem and that's why I like it, but I still prefer Windows. I started on mac and came to windows about 18 months ago. Windows is just way more superior in almost every aspect.

To be honest it all comes down to different stuff. Windows for gaming I have a gaming pc but when it comes to apple I have a Macbook Pro mac is by far the best for editing and work. Heres why whenever you edit on windows theirs always either a crash or it freezes mac is optimized for editing and work so theirs never a problem for that

Personally I use both. I have an iMac and Windows PC and I control them through Synergy. I do this because some applications run better on windows (More development applications) and some run better on Mac (Editing and sometimes browsing). In my opinion it's all based on what you intend to use it for

If by "best of both worlds" you meant dual booting Manjaro on a Mac, that's sadly no longer possible. This is 2020 Apple, and they prevent any non-bootcamp dual booting on their laptops with a hardware T2 chip. Great for security, terrible for limiting customers.

If you meant just running Manjaro for everything, it's just not practical for me. I need to be able to easily run applications only available on Windows and Mac without having to resort to Wine for everything. It's the one massive disadvantage of any Linux distro, IMO.

Back in 2017, actually. That old Windows machine from my OP was an absolute turd, so towards the end of its life, I installed a Linux distro I liked called elementaryOS onto it. It was a nice experience.
I'm not sure how much of my library is Proton compatible, but I wouldn't be surprised if it was a major portion of it since I've heard Proton's compatibility is fantastic. And no, nothing I'm doing is so extremely specific. Who knows, maybe with a bit more information on the transition, I could make it happen.

EDIT: Not relevant to this post, but I've got to mention, the spell checker Windows is rocking puts the turd in macOS and iOS to shame (pretty sure Apple forgot that existed and hasn't touched it since 2013. Like, I'd bet money on that).
