Honestly? You could give Ubuntu a try. It's similar to the Mac layout and really I feel like one of the big reasons people don't use Linux is because it's hard to learn a new OS and spend the time for it, but if your doing that anyways it may be worth it. Elementary OS and Pop OS are also similar.

Video editing, if you have the cash, which I've invested in, is actually excellent. I run one of the newer MacBooks (i9) and I love it. I don't game anymore, only go on Minecraft very rarely to test things out. Developing also does well. Gaming and live streaming is not what an iMac, Mac Pro, or MacBook are designed for. It's productivity.[DOUBLEPOST=1590385077][/DOUBLEPOST]
Why not macOS on desktops? I own an iMac and it works great for my tasks, such as development, editing, and such. It's a high powered model though, one of the great cpus.[DOUBLEPOST=1590385149][/DOUBLEPOST]
Do whatever you want, yeah I understand. But why would you want to do everything? Complete access at least imo isn't good.
but can u game on mac without issues or upgrade its part? Kappa

They cost waaay too much compared to the Windows/Linux competition in a form factor that makes the brute force of those PCs be better than Mac's optimization of crap CPUs and GPUs (as opposed to laptops where your only choices are crap CPUs and GPUs anyways). There's also that outside of said optimization, video editing, and sound editing, MacOS doesn't have any advantage on Desktops.

Honestly, if you could afford it, apple's products are always well-manufactured. You will rarely encounter any issues and everything seems to be much sleeker. Love the look and feel of a macbook pro btw. The GUI is the best looking thing since Scarlett Johansson.

I mean for the OP I'd recommend Windows for him for the purpose of gaming, but in general, macOS, if you buy a top tier Mac (like I now own an i9 MacBook with some GPU for video editing and development but I don't game) then I wouldn't see the most need to upgrade parts. Productivity and the key to the apple ecosystem.

You can also upgrade the RAM and storage on an iMac same with the Mac Pro. MacBook yeah I understand.[DOUBLEPOST=1590385764][/DOUBLEPOST]
The crap cpus and cpus aren't really true unless you don't have the money with Mac. There are definitely high powered Macs like my MacBook with an i9-9900k and some GPU. Great for video editing and productivity. A bit overkill since I don't game but I use it. Definitely not crap hardware if you choose the right product. Mac is the same with 5k displays and such. I am planning to purchase a Mac Pro soon (hopefully). I love the interface of any Apple product and with the right money, you can get the same power as a high end Windows PC.
Yeah sorry I don't have 10K to buy a PC that can't even beat a PC I made for 500$

That's incorrect. Definitely not $10k. Okay yes your PC probably beats a $500 Mac product (list me your specs) but definitely can be matched. An i9-9900k MacBook is definitely not $10k, around $2kish (don't quote me on that). Mac Pro yes that's the numbers. I love the quality of a MacBook and I am proud that I purchased an expensive laptop.

EDIT: Rereading your post, that's dragging it. Okay, let's say I do buy a $2kish iMac. DEFINITELY going to perform better than your $500 PC. That's a undeniable fact.
a 2k iMac has an i5 8500, my PC has a xeon e5 2689 0
a 2k iMac has a Radeon Pro 575X, my PC has an RX 580 8GB
a 2k iMac has 8GB of ram, my PC has 64 GB of ram
so yeah, outside of the CPU (it's only like 15% slower) my PC is faster and 1/4 of the price

Windows, why? Macs are just hyped because they are made by apple. They are good for music producers etc and do have an upper hand to windows on some things but for me personally windows is just so much better for my use

So, for once this sort of thread's started not with the intention of inciting rage and starting a flame war but to gather the opinions of the community and the reasons therein.

I'm starting this thread because it's about time for me to move to a new machine. I've been on a MacBook since 2017, and was on a Windows laptop prior. I'm actually writing this from a Windows laptop (not mine, borrowed) because I wanted to really immerse myself and give it a fair shot. I thought it may be interesting to hear some other people's suggestions and opinions. I want to stay on laptops though, no desktops; it's just more practical for me.

EDIT: I think it'd be noteworthy to add that the whole reason I'm considering the move is because of games. I miss being able to run games. Games are fun, you know?

Thank you kindly,

Right, so for anyone who still remembers or cares (I don't know why you would), I'm done dabbling with Windows. It was… something.

As for Linux, I'm pleasantly surprised with how much is fantastic in PopOS and elementaryOS (I didn't wanna try low-level distributions like Arch/Parabola/Artix/Gentoo/Void etc), but I'm still wary of compatibility issues. For example, I was looking into replacing my 6 year old mouse, and it was sad seeing the state of Linux drivers for most of those mice.

So I'm going to be sticking with macOS. Oh well.

I'd 100% go windows if I were you, but I do admit this is a biased opinion. I just find it much more flexible and usable when it comes to software, games, etc. You can also slap it onto a lot of different machines.
