Given the two options, I'd have to say you should just not have a forum. Not only is it ethically wrong to steal, but your website could get a DMCA notice placed against it, forcing you to either purchase the a license or remove the forums.

So, you'd either have to buy it anyway or you would have to remove it and have wasted countless hours of time.

There are a lot of owners who used nulled xenforos, but it's not always the safest thing to do. You may have hidden links or doorways for attackers to get in with http://yourdomain/[key].

If you're just experimenting or practicing feel free to use it, but as Pazzword said it's not ethical nor do you receive any support by the official staff. Just don't have a website at all if you don't want to go through the hassle.
