Hello,

I was looking through some new xenforo addons, when I found a potentially really interested addon for a native mobile xenforo app that adds a bunch more features than just the current mobile theme would. It's something that seems interesting. Link: https://forumapps.net/

I have been against the idea of an app for a while, due to the cost and time that would be spent making it (There are other areas that need more attention). However if that's a premade app that wouldn't take long to setup it might be worth considering.

Yes, the MCM theme is fairly mobile optimised, viewing the forum on a phone isn't really the problem. Its the lack of notifications. Being able to know as soon as someone replies to my thread and posts of new thread requesting something from my phone would be alot easier, than either having to log into the site regularly to check (Even then that would be slower than notifications), or enabling email notifications, which doesn't send emails for somethings, takes longer to read (have to unlock your phone, open the emails and scroll down). Thats without mentioning what it can do to your inbox. You can get 10+ emails a day from MCM if you're fairly active. At peak a few months back I was getting closer to 20-25/d.

A lot of people get scammed by impersonators which is only possible because people prefer to do deals via skype, discord etc since the PM system isn't very practical. But with an app, getting notifications on message replies as well as being able to reply there and then on your phone, would make using PM's more viable. Easier for people, since they are less likely to get scammed and easier for M6 as well. Reading through PM's has to be easier than going through a load of screenshots.

$20/m for this seems it's at the very least worth a shot.

I think this is worth a try, as Fire said, lack of notifications is annoying. Being a smartwatch user having all my messages go through my watch while being in school is awesome as we're not allowed our phones, adding MCM to the notifications would be great.

Seriously--emails get annoying but they're one of the ways I get notifications without having to actually log in to the website.

Stating what's already been stated, an app might be too expensive to make and there are far better uses of the available money.
If--like Fire said--there was a cheap way of doing it, go right ahead! I'd be perfectly happy with a mobile app.

Since this app is more practical than making one yourself, the only question that remains is how secure it is. If it's something made officially by Xenforo, it'll be reasonably secure. However, if it's not, the connection between the app and the database of MCM becomes an important factor. I'm sure Mick and Lyphiard could at least take a look at how it works though.

I agree with this 100% but we all know Mick will deny this..
Thanks for the feedback :)

I believe Croc may or may not have proposed for someone to this a while ago.

I have purchased mobile application framework type things like this in the past but unless I am mistaken, I don't think that this would support our addons such as the chat box? Does anyone know a forum that currently uses this?

Not to my knowledge, but it seems to be a very capable software. Regardless, it would bring a ton more features (mainly push notifications) to mobile. I think it'd be worth a shot for one month as a trial, after all, what's $20 to MCM.

It would be a really cool addition, but like Aderm said it is quite expensive.
$20 a month is nothing for MCM, they make that much with 2/3 of a supreme purchase or just one day of a top banner ad lol

The price isn't as relevant as the fact that any forum app would be a step down from the current mobile site that we have. If you would like to see what the site would look like if we had ForumApps, download 'ForumApps' on the app store and see the differences between a regular xenForo mobile site and their one. It's far too basic and doesn't offer any of the functionality that the real site has.

If there was a great mobile app we could introduce I'd happily pay hundreds a month for it, but there are just none on the market and they provide no real benefit.

I think the main reason the majority of us would like to see a forum app would be the push notifications which can be added on their own using this or something similar: https://xenforo.com/community/resources/xen-pushover-push-notifications.3039/
