Hey kids.
I (we?) just watched this video months and months ago, but it's implications I did not realize until 2 weeks ago when I viewed it again and had a revelation for too close to home.
I fairly often catch myself saying "we have 3 more miles" or "you have 4 more miles" while I'm approaching a challenging portion of a run, or when I wake up in the morning thinking in a weird, semi connected manner. I've also found that I like to touch things when given the opportunity with both hands, as I've noticed using one hand only gets part of the idea of the touch across, as though I only half touched the object. After asking around today, I've found a few people who have referred to themselves as you, and one other person who has referred to themselves as we.
Now, this has really been digging at me, as I've always felt a vague sense that there is something, not so much a voice but something that is often pulling me to do things I don't quite understand but I just feel as though something else is pulling me to act in a certain way in many situations, though typically social. I haven't done the research, but I would guess there is a relation between the hemisphere of the brain that is noncommunicable and the one responsible for social interactions which is responsible for this action.
This reality especially concerns me because I am a strong believer and proponent of Brain Computer Interfaces (BCIs), BCIs are attempting to gain the ability to read the information a brain is conveying in an understandable manner. The potential that at some point, we may find a second part of a brain unable to communicate traditionally but in a manner we do not currently understand. The potential for a situation similar to the film Arrival is a prospect I was not ready to consider today.
So, after watching the video, do you (you two?) have any thoughts about this phenomenon or have you experienced anything similar to I have? I would also like to hear about how you think it would be best dealt with should the ability to interpret this other part be discovered.
Thank you (two?).
