I've worked with quite a few servers and from what I know most of them are on 1.12.2+. 1.8.8 is severely outdated and you can do so much with the future versions of Minecraft.

I disagree. Most are 1.8.8 because of the pvp mechanics.

I'm so glad we're finally getting some developers on Spigot that are dropping support for versions lower than 1.12

The reason behind the points you listed are that so many communities were created around this version, with the pvp mechanics. Many game modes were created and lots of large communities still base their servers off this version. Diz stated they are working on implementing new versions, so instead of questioning it further understand and accept it. I'm sure it will come soon enough.

If the spigot is a skyblock spigot and the majority of skyblock servers use 1.13, wouldn't it be best to have the spigot use that version?

To be honest, any server that will be going anywhere, won't care what version they start with. They should rather be adjusting their needs based on the server jar. Not the other way around... the jar is the foundation. Feels bad when people with no experience arguing on a thread they don't even own. What has this marketplace become.

Around 20% uses 1.8, but what does it matter?
A lot of 1.8 servers are 1.8 for the wrong reasons, while also a lot of 1.8 servers are 1.8 for the right reason. The main type of 1.8 servers (factions) usually have only one reason to stick to 1.8 which either is 1. They're just not that smart or 2. They're afraid of not making enough money. Of course, some may be exceptions and actually have a good reason to.

In the past 2 years ive owned two networks that peaked 200 players, and I can confirm that players prefer 1.8.8 for skyblock, and I can confirm Diz is an amazing guy who works with an amazing developer Beer, thanks for the new spigot I might purchase, in the near future!
