I know how the administration team here dislikes the negative rating system, so they disabled it. However, on some posts and threads, a simple thumbs down/dislike rating would be very helpful! Of course, change it to uncounted/nuetral rather than negative (default). It could also be a disagree rating instead if "dislike" is too negative in nature.

Do you have a way of removing abusive ratings, in that case? I seem to recall being informed that staff aren't really capable of removing ratings that are added to someone's account. If someone goes on an alt and starts negative rate-bombing people to oblivion, what would be done about it? Because I can guarantee that that sort of thing would happen.
We wouldn't remove ratings at all because they will not matter. They only started mattering when someone started calling ratings reputation (which they are not, let's make that clear). They have never really mattered to us and they shouldn't matter to you guys, in terms of trading. Anyone that uses ratings to determine the trading profile of a user isn't doing their due diligence.

They're post ratings. It's a way of conveying opinion collectively to show opinion on it. Overall ratings being shown on profiles is just a "plus". Ratings are irrelevant, more or less.

I think it's a stupid idea that's just going to cause a lot of drama and bitching posts. There's no point to introducing it at all. Why bother just to piss people off?

So hide the tabulation?

Personally, I'd like to have the ratings removed altogether, but something tells me that wouldn't go over well. Ratings are more of a big deal around here than they should be, but what do you do?

Leave it as it is. It's not an issue unless you make it an issue. I haven't heard anyone complaining about it lately. There's nothing wrong with the way things are currently. Change without reason is usually bad.

I didn't say it was getting removed. I'm saying I think we'd be better off if we didn't have it.

Removing it all together is a better solution than what you folks are proposing. You have to be totally blind not to see the can of worms you'll be opening by adding a rating that can push people into the negative. It doesn't matter if rating =/= reputation, people still pride themselves on their contribution to this forum. By enabling a system to let others downvote them with zero merit, it nullifies peoples contribution. You're literally taking the community out of this site and pushing it that further into toxic territory.

I kind of agree with this. If we were to remove the ratings altogether, we would fallback on the like system built into XF. It would be a single rating, basically. I think that would remove any sort of controversy about what ratings mean and it wouldn't matter if it was a joke or not...you honestly wouldn't be able to tell. The other option is to remove ratings and likes altogether, but I'm not to fond of that idea.

Again, this is just me contributing to the discussion here. I'm not saying this is what will happen. I'm saying, these would be the options we'd have if we went the route of removing ratings altogether.

The rating system as we have it now isn't entirely useless. the 3 ratings I think should definitely stay are the "like", "agree" and "informative", as it allows things to be expressed about a post without spamming a post just to say 2-3 words.
If necessary, the others can go, including the received rating system and whatnot.

No no no, I wouldn't want to remove any of the ratings we have unless all of them were removed. The original suggestion in this thread was to add a NUETRAL dislike rating, but it kind of was malformed into a different subject lol

It's not rocket surgery. All you need to do is keep the system exactly as it is. Add the neutral or negative rating, whatever. Then remove all traces in the CSS to where it shows how many rating points people have. You essentially keep the functionality that you have, but without the drama of people caring about numbers. It also removes any confusion that rating might equal reputation.

I don't think any changes should be made to the current rating system at all. It is fine exactly the way it is now. Any change would be a mistake.

I think this site needs the default XF like system. I love Post Ratings and for most forums it's great, in fact I recommend it for almost all forums. But the users here are so messed up that, somehow, they fucked the entire system up. That's really what this post ratings system is here, it's really messed up.

If we had the "disagree" rating right now, I would use it here.

The system itself is great, however, the way it's being used is not that great. It's also being interpreted incorrectly as a reputation system.

You can't just arbitrarily destroy or remove a system that has been in place far longer than most of the members of staff have even been members on this website. Everyone here recognizes the ratings system and it is a part of the way the site is run. Is it not the best system for reputation? Yeah. Is it totally useless? No. Members like Doge with mountains of ratings would never scam somebody. The few cases of members with over 1000 ratings that have scammed are fringe cases.

People with high ratings worked hard to build those ratings and just taking that away from them for no reason at all - just because some retards aren't capable of looking through someone's post history - is totally nonsensical.

If you remove ratings or introduce something totally idiotic and unnecessarily abusable as negative ratings all it will do is piss more people off and lead more people to do exit scams and leave this site for sites that don't have staff that make completely random changes that nobody wants or asked for.

This thread was asking for a neutral dislike rating and somehow you guys have jumped that over to either removing ratings or introducing an abusable negative dislike rating? Why?

Just leave the system the way it is now. It is perfectly functional. I can say - personally - that removing the rating system will be a nail in the coffin for my usage of this site.
