I'm not sure why it was removed, it was very useful. Everyone just posts it under "Selling" and it can be kind of misleading if you're doing a quick preview of the threads. Or allow us to put no prefix at all.

- Free products are not selling, regardless of what you think. You cannot sell free products. This concept applies to shops, also.
- By using the Free tag, we automatically allow the indexing and searching of all Free products. This makes it easier for people to find what they want for free, quicker than we can with the current tags.
- It's a simple tag. It's not going to do harm. It never has and there was no reason to remove it.
- "Oh but this is a market, we shouldn't allow things being given away omg!11!!1". Let's remove the ability to give vouch copies then, right? Markets do have free products, especially irl as say stuff like tasters or trying to just be seen. Often free products are just trying to build up a reputation. If not, it is for generosity or for some other reason. It can be arbitrary too, lol. No need to enforce a system that doesn't exist.
The thing is, it was a tag at one point. I used it quite often actually and helps get more attraction to things you are releasing for free.
I completely agree, the amount of people who have to use "Selling" on free resources/products is baffling.

Yeah unfortunately Mick don't want to ease the search and add more prefixes.
Similarly... "Free" and "Shop" tags were also removed from Builds section without an explanation and people who requested to add those prefixes back were pretty much ignored.
So yeah this thread will probably stay like this for some 6-12 months until Mick will find few spare seconds to close this with a messaged "Denied, thank you for suggestion."

people will tend to go to a forum then resources, i havent checked resources in about 7 months
Then the that's another problem, resources should be implemented in to the forum properly.
You also have to wait for approval when you upload a plugin. It could take several days.
again that's a problem with mcm, not a problem with resources.
No one is saying there is a problem with resources. It's just more convenient to have the free tag.

Your point would state that all plugins should not be sold via forums but via resources, and by extension would eradicate the section entirely. That is why I disagreed. There is no reason to move just the 'free' part to the resources when you'd have to make it consistent by moving it all. There just isn't any point. Adding the free tag would be fine for those who want to use it, people can also choose to use resources, however.

As I've said on a few other suggestions about this topic, the reason the free tag was removed was because it makes it far more difficult to navigate between offering and requesting since both can theoretically use the free tag, which is unintuitive and not a proper way to filter things.
We're getting a proper filtering system made soon with better ways to sift through threads created.
