Hello, I ran a mc server for 2-3 years and ended 2 years ago. I made a good 20-30k during my run.

I was wondering if servers are still profitable and which game mode is the best to make money.

Thanks

They can be, but you really need to put several thousand into the network if you want to actually make decent continuous income off of it.

Definitely still profitable for the little kiddies who like to waste money, go for it. Don't expect to make a lot of money unless you put in a lot and even then it's a big risk. Good luck!

Which game mode do you think is the most profitable in terms of the amount of effort I’d need to put in ? I used to run a factions server and thought factions was most profitable. Also in the past 2 years I now know java/python/c/sql so could possibly create some stuff myself.

Not profitable unless you have connections. Don't waste your money unless you are confident with what you are doing and have the right people working alongside you.

Everyone thats saying it isn't profitable is talking complete bullshit...
Its more then possible, even without contacts, even without good management and even if you only invest 5$.
Just cause there are some proffesional servers doesn't mean all have to be.

You have to be unique and you have to be almost 100% custom.
Furthermore, pvp based minigames seem to be the main way to go now, sure, factions is still a massive market, however, it is a very over saturated market and is not really worth investing in anymore. You'll be a profitable server for the first season or two if you run things right, but it likely won't last very long.

Also,

Yeah, no.
Again this is not true... My skyblock server isn't good, isn't proffesional and doesn't have any type of advertisements. Still i make 100$ a month when i spend about 10 a month...
Just cause people want to spend a thousand dollars doesn't mean its neccasary.[DOUBLEPOST=1525036346][/DOUBLEPOST]
Agreed! I ran my old server with $30 in the beginning and ended up making 10k in a 3 month period. If you know what you're doing then you can easily make a successful server.
Finally someone that seems to understand...

We are talking about long-term.

How long is long term? My server has been making over 50$ a month for the last 3 years, over 100$ a month for the last year... Seems like long term to me.

If you could recommend 1 gamemode, what would it be?

Please list a successful server you ran and when it was up.

Minigames, or Skyblock if you can really come up with something that every other network isn't already doing.
