'How to start out with Minecraft Drawing?'

I really want to start and get into Minecraft Drawing! I could buy a simple drawing-tablet like the 'Wacom Intuous Draw Small'. So, I'm not that bad in drawing but I just never paid attention to it and I never got into it. After seeing all those beautiful Minecraft-Drawings, I just want to do that too! And I know, it will be far from easy. There is one thing I really need to know. Where do I start with Minecraft-Drawing?! I want to make Server-Logos and Player-Icons or something, I have sketched some small things which don't look bad imo. I also want to know how to shade, I Always don't know where the shade has to be. I would like to hear some tips from other Minecraft-Drawers on MCM!

Best Regards,
Alphax

I would start drawing on paper to make sure you really like it. A while back I thought I liked it, so I bought a laptop that I could use to draw on, but I ended up being horrible at drawing and stopped.

Just make sure you like it before you commit to buying all the latest and greatest to draw with.
That's the same thing that happened to me, holy shit lol. I was like mhm this would be pretty cool began drawing and wasn't good at it and it was just wasn't fun at all to me. So, I went and sold the Drawing Tablet on eBay.

You're indeed correct that's it's far from easy. Though here are some tips to get you started.
/-=-/ Your weapon of choice.
If you want to get into Minecraft art, I suggest buying a drawing tablet, also known as a digitalizer.
You can go with Wacom, as most people do, or you could do something else, for example a Huion H610 Pro. (I'm currently using the Huion H610 Pro). The Huion is not too expensive, and it's very large. It's probably your best bet if you'd like a large surface that you can use.

/-=-/ Tutorials -- Practice
As with everything, you'll need to practice a lot. I suggest making a small drawing every day. You'll notice that your drawings will become better overtime.
Learning from other artist is also a good idea. Inspiration is fine, but you'll need to develop your own style at some point.
There are also tutorials on Youtube to help you get started. This all comes down to preference.
If you'd like a more realistic artstyle, for example, you like to include muscle structure to your characters. Then I suggest following a course by Proko. He's amazing an amazing teacher, and you'll get started with muscles in no time!

Of course, you can watch some Minecraft artists also, such as TotallyDrawn.
Or you can look at some artwork from other artist on MCM, such as Coco, Vividly, Silk, TechB, Crooked or Luisa. All of them are amazing artist!

/-=-/ Shading
As you mentioned, you aren't sure where to start with shading. I'll give a little headstart on this.
There are 3 types of shading that I like to use. (Keep in mind, this is different for everybody, so the best thing you could do is experiment with it!)
Cell Shading: Cell Shading gives a more cartoon / animation vibe. This is usually used in comics, or cartoons. It's not a bad choice to use if you'd like to make Minecraft Artwork.
You can view a tutorial on how to do Cell Shading >> Here <<

Metal: Sometimes you need to draw metal for Minecraft Artwork, such as ingots or armor. Or if you're going to draw skins, some people have metal on their skin.
You can view a tutorial on how to shade metal >> Here <<

Semi-Realistic: This is the style I prefer to use, but it's up to you.
Using this shading style, it makes the piece come to life. It's also widely used in non-Minecraft artwork.
You can view a tutorial on how to shade semi-realistic >> Here <<

Other then this, if you have any questions, feel free to give me a PM and I'll help you out as best as I can!
Good luck on this new adventure!
