Okay, so basically quite often threads that are 2+ months old get brought back from the dead, by someone, that hasn't looked at the original post date. Which is something everyone is guilty of doing at some point.

My solution to this would be, that if after 6 weeks of inactivity (no upthreads, edit's or replies) then it's safe to say that the post has already served its purpose and is no longer needed. The OP could be given the option to unlock it, just in case.

This should hopefully stop people from bringing up old threads again, as it clutters the forum with redundant threads, and can be quite annoying.

I kinda agree and disagree at the same time.

This is already a thing; the current thread lock is set at 5-6 months, I believe.
What you're really suggesting is that it be lowered.
However, I feel the time frame it's set at currently is quite alright where it is.
If anything, I'm often more annoyed at threads being locked pre-maturely, while they're still relevant, such as with resource threads or service threads, than I am with discussions that start back up again due to not being locked.
I'd rather not decrease the amount of time a thread can remain open even further.

You can always use the report button if you believe a thread is, as you said, no longer needed, and it may be locked.

As Justis said, threads get closed after 6 months of inactivity. 5-6 weeks as you suggested is far from enough. There are many service threads on here which are 5-6 weeks old but the OP has no intent of closing down his service.

-1 on this.

if the OP lets their service thread go 5-6 weeks without using the upthread, then they are unlikely to receive many customers, as most people only check the first few pages. Someone who is actively seeking customers will up their thread every once in a while. Which every time someone up's it, the time would reset.

I see your point, similar to what I said to BeBosny, however an additional measure could be to have different limits depending on the tag. So if the tag is Shop (which most service threads are) the time would be extended.

In a lot of cases, they are just temporarily inactive. This is the case with a lot of pre made build and setup shops.

Denied, thanks for the suggestion.
