This makes it incredibly hard to find someone on MCM to message them or what not. It can even be used to evade a ban temporarily because the staff member may just give up trying to find the correct unicode symbol that they used. Also, it is just plain unprofessional. For example, Twitter doesn't allow any foreign characters or emojis in usernames, yet people still manage to find something decent to be called.

No look at the results of the vote. It is about tied.
Votes don't mean anything. It's all dependant on Mick and the rest of the leadership team.

But if Mick is a good leader, he would take the people's votes into consideration within reason.
If the issue was significant enough he would put up a official vote, and not care about results on a thread made by a community user

Just don't talk to people who have special characters in their name?
If they ban special characters from names, they should ban name changing too imo, just as toxic if not worse.

Nobody knows everything, including Mick. Maybe he simply overlooked this potentially huge problem.

Eh, Its fine, I see where your coming from but I mean I think its fine. If it was such a problem Mick whould have already banned it.
The site is constantly evolving.
The suggestion forums are here for a reason.
A change having not being made already is no excuse for thinking we don't need one, and shouldn't make one.

I highly doubt a staff member wouldn't ban someone because they don't feel like copy pasting a user name. ._. I have higher faith in the staff on Mc-market than to even suggest that.. xD
I agree, I don't think that's the main issue here.
The issue is how obnoxiously difficult it can be to locate a user.
This may annoy staff in the same way it annoys anyone else, but I doubt it would persuade them not to ban anyone.
The point I think croc was trying to get across is the delay, the extra time it might take for a staff to locate a person causing trouble... Enabling them to keep doing whatever mischief they're doing for however long that is.
Likely only a few seconds, a minute or two.. Or three.., but it can make all the difference.

Lmfao this is dumb

1: If you want to pm someone click their avatar and select "Start a conversation"
2: If you need to tag someone copy paste the name
3: If the name holder doesnt have a problem with it let it be
Well you needn't laugh in spite and call it dumb.
Many people find it frustrating, and even if you don't, you should take that seriously.
This is a community after all.

Your first two points are invalid.
The problem isn't at the moment where someone wants to start a conversation, or tag them..
It's locating them at all.
I know, for me personally, if I want to find a user with characters I can't replicate, I have to search through all of my post history, looking for a post they might have made in the same thread as me... And that's only if they have posted in the same thread as me.
If not, I might be stuck searching high and low through every single forum looking for them.
A lot of times, I get lucky, and the people I'm looking for are in the shoutbox.
But unless they're right there in front of you, you're out of luck.
If that's not considered a flaw... Tell me what is.

Just don't talk to people who have special characters in their name?

...

Anyways, this is a similar post to that of Skill's:
http://www.mc-market.org/threads/52798/
Which received nine agree ratings, if that means anything at all to anyone.

As I said on Skill's post...
Last I heard, Mick intended to, at some point, shift the site into an all a-z/1-0 usernames only.
For all the reasons croc and other supporting members have voiced.
The difficulty of locating a member with special characters.
The inability to type out their name manually, even if you know it.
The ability to impersonate other members, with such ease...

If Mick's changed his mind, that's his choice; and I hope he voices it.
Though, I do support this change.

I'd honestly say that it's the person's choice. I would definitely not risk loosing clients or private messages because of special characters in a username, but some people take that risk. If I was looking for someone who was named Ṳ﹩℮ґᾔαღε, I would probably search "Username", but not find it because they used special characters. Plus, most people private message based off memory, so why would you risk that? Again, I do believe that there should be choice here, but I don't recommend it.
