Okay Switchbladed I have a question,
I see that Shockbyte has 1 GB servers for $2.50. So if I buy 8 of those it would be $20 which is the same price of your unlimited plan. So after 8GB would it be "free ram" ?

2.5 x 8 = 20
20
Represents the Price ($)
All Currency Listed is in USD

Essentially yes, but here's the thing you got to actually be using 8GB to keep it. If you only need 2GB because you have 5players then all you will get is 2GB.

Think of it like this, you pay a set fee each month and as your server grows so does your hosting resources. Overall this is actually a good deal.

Under BoostRAM it is not possible to split the unlimited plan into multiple servers, so what you described would not be possible. BoostRAM also sells 1GB servers for $3/GB, so a similar setup would cost slightly more here.

What we typically see our clients with networks do at BoostRAM is use an unlimited server for their largest/main server, then use the smaller 1-2GB plans for BungeeCord, the Hub/Lobby and other smaller servers.

Although it's also worth noting that, BoostRAM and Shockbyte are separate entities and target slightly different types of clients.

This is not the case. A BoostRAM server starts with a minimum soft limit of 8GB - it will never drop below this. It will increase as needed (before it's needed), and currently our system is configured not to reduce this value either. So for example, if your soft limit is upgraded to 12GB by our system, it will never drop back to 8GB. There is a buffer amount to ensure you always have more than you need and to make sure the server is upgraded before it needs to be.

I think you understood it wrong, partly my fault. I ment to mean that it would be 1 Server with 8GB Ram that costed $20.

Yes, you would be correct that BoostRAM is cheaper than Shockbyte in that case (beyond 8GB). This comparison can be made with any company and BoostRAM will often prove to be more cost effective. It really is a great deal.

Machine specs?
All of our servers run on a minimum of:
  • Intel Xeon E5-1650v2
  • DDR3 ECC RAM
  • Solid State Drives
However, we're currently in the process of upgrading the hardware of all servers. The majority of servers have already been upgraded, so it is more likely you'll be placed on one of the machines below (if not, you will be automatically upgraded without an IP change in the near future, or can request an upgrade):
  • Intel Xeon E5-1650v3
  • DDR4 ECC RAM
  • NVMe Solid State Drives (which can be up to 6x faster than regular SATA SSDs)

I'm interested. Few questions.

What's the max ram a server can go to?

Does it come with a dedicated up?

What CPU do you use?

The maximum RAM is well beyond any realistic limit you'll ever reach. You're not going to reach the physical limits even if you try to.

No, a Dedicated IP is available for purchase as a separate addon.

We use Intel Xeon E5-1650v4 CPUs.

So with the unlimited plan we are not allowed to have mods like I have a modpack with 275 mods would this be allowed to be ran it is the Unabridged mod pack.

Yes, you are allowed to run as many mods as you wish.

Am I able to host a minecraft server and Xenforo on one server?

No, this will only support a Minecraft server. This is not a VPS/web hosting service.

What's the typical amount of users per node?

This number is very variable and is based on a number of factors. Servers do not impact each other though and we have monitoring systems in place (both for server provisioning and running at all times) that ensure this.

So how much ram is the max you say we can use like what if we have a server with like 400 players and 300 mods taking up like 32gb ??? Because I may use this host for a MC host for a modded network :D

The physical maximum 128GB, but you will never realistically reach this. You will hit other bottlenecks before even getting close to using this amount of memory. You also wouldn't likely use even close to 32GB for 400 players / 300 mods.

Hey mate!
Is there any chance we could talk through discord?

Sure - my username on Discord is Mitch#8429. If you can reply with yours, or send me a PM with yours it will be best as I receive lots of contact requests every day.

A DDoS attack will never crash the server. A DDoS attack on your server will only affect the network, so it sounds like it was a different issue you experienced. You can always contact our support to help with issues like this.

Would visitors be able to monitor the CPU usage on daemons publically?

Could you clarify what you mean? If you mean to display CPU usage publicly on our website, there's no point and it's not very feasible anyway. We have far too many nodes for the data to mean anything and most people don't know how to read/understand the data/graphs. On top of this, we're not going to install extraneous software on any of our nodes. This just increases attack surface and is a bigger security risk. Not to mention these graphs can obviously be spoofed very easily.
