Charitable Fundraiser Idea

If you're going to donate 100% of the proceeds to a specific charity, I would strongly suggest that you contact the charity organization for proper approval. I've done something like this before; however, it was just a 1 day event on an MC server, and I was told by the charity organization that I could not use their logo/name in the advertising and that I should have received proper and advanced approval. Just a heads up- good luck with what you guys are doing!

This specifically isnt going to use brand names to raise the funds however yes thanks for the precaution as each month will be dedicated to a new charity so we may need to do that

Sounds like a cool idea, it could work, checkout Craftathon (not trying to advertise, just using it as a reference), it's a yearly 2-day MC event which is basically a server opened for those 2 days with youtubers and other cool stuff, they donated thousands of dollars which they got from donations, so it's possible.

I like the idea, I've partially set something like this up in the past. However when going through it properly with my management team, I ran into a few potential issues which I'll let you know about:
- I assume the gamemode you're making is Factions as you contacted Dexter, but if not it doesn't always apply but there is a lot of fraud which goes on with players. Players make chargebacks everyday if they don't like a server, no longer play it, get raided, whatever the case may be. What happens if someone donates $200, you pay X amount to the charity, pay for running costs then the player charges back a few months down the line? You're then out $200 and will then take that out of other donations which will then come out of players donating to the charity. You'll lose the trust from the players as they'll see the money isn't being donated to charity, making them chargeback ect ect. All in all, non-profit gamemodes are a good idea however because PayPal dispute system is fucked and broken, it makes it hard not to go into minus.

- What happens if the server does't make as much as you thought? You spend hundreds on development, running costs ect and you get lets say $100 in donations, you're not going to donate 85% of that to charity as this will leave you in the minus aswell.

Here are my suggestions:
- On the buycraft, the monthly payment option can be modified so it shows the exact amount of money donated (i.e $450/$500 donation goal) This will make it transparent with the players so when you show the donation receipt at the end of the month or week, they'll know X amount went to the charity, X amount went to hosting, X amount went to this and that.
- Have set in stone and plan the monthly expenses and make this known to the players showing proof. (i.e $100 goes to dedicated server, $30 goes to buycraft, $100 goes to X feature which was implemented on the server)
- You need to be as open and as transparent as possible to make players trust you.

These reasons were why I didn't take this any further because I felt that I'd lose money out of my own pocket in the long run.
