Disallow Similar Name Change

Alright, so today I was having a nice peaceful study session when Dahyun decides it would be funny to change his name to LonelyTree using an I instead of L.

People may have different opinions about this topic, but I believe this is essentially impersonation. I don't think you should be allowed to change your name similar to another user. When I say similar, I don't mean xxdragonxx vs dragon. I mean LonelyTree vs LoneIyTree. Like come on man..

Now, this affects me a lot since a lot of people know me as LonelyTree (A name i've used for around 2 years). It is currently Hello due to a misunderstanding on my part of how the name request system works.

You completely ignored my first comment. MCM has a system that prevents users from changing their name to names used by previous members. It’s there for a reason and changing your name to look like it is basically bypassing that system.

It’s different. So if you had the name Sky and I name myself Ski am I copying you? You Yuo. Color C0l0r. It’s different, sometimes people would not even know. Yes, in this situation it should not be allowed. But overall? Of course it should be allowed. If I changed my name 20 times on mcmarket should those names and all similar names be blocked?

When I say similar names, I don't mean things that can be easily differential like Color vs C0l0R, i'm talking about things like Color vs CoIor which is almost indistignable in shoutbox and name profile.

I would say only make it a thing if its an attempt to impersonate. Aka getting the same art and/or custom title as well.

Put it this way, would you like a person on the market with the name lvain (L instead of I) browsing. Idk, personally I think we should all get our own unquie names instead of altering a letter to make it look the same as an existing user.

I don't particularly think this should be against the rules, however, I think there should be protections against scamming using this put in place. As utaninja said, people should have the rights to change their names, but since this could easily be abused, at least some type of protection, for instance, a drop-down menu showing all names similar on the forums.

I agree that people have the right to change their name to whatever they want. But surely there has to be limitations to that. When you look at this, tell me what you see http://prntscr.com/i52nxi do you see LoneIyTree or LonelyTree. Now, this will be more apparent when I change my name back in a few weeks. I believe people should have the option to change their name to whatever they want, but not to the point where it's indistinguishable to another user.

What you proposed was a drop down menu which would be more work than changing the name back and giving warning points.

I'd laugh at them, but I'd call it an attempt to impersonate me if they took my avatar as well.
