[Discuss] Do you judge people by their profile picture/avatar?

I feel like this is becoming a common thing. For me personally, I assume a lot of people look at my avatar and see me as a smug and selfish person, because that's what connotations my avatar gives off to people. This idea of judging a person by a picture that they choose to represent themselves as online is absurd.

Let's say I had this as my avatar...

...would you approach me differently? Would you talk to me in a more professional manor? Would you see what I'm selling as higher quality? Does this make me look more reputable?

That is the question I am asking. I sometimes feel like I do this to other people. For example, seeing someone with a hot girl as their profile picture on a Minecraft trading site automatically screams out "single 13 year old virgin who has few friends and spends most of their time online to get away from not being liked in the outside world".

This is a topic which I've never seen brought up. So here it is.

I'd like to hear some impressions on this topic.

I really avoid the people with avatars that are inappropriate, or something pulled off google images.

I had my own seal avatar, didn't really bother customers or friends you could say. I've been using my current avatar made by Mumzel since its pretty cool and I like it for mc

Answering the OP: no I do not judge. if you have an inappropriate pic what gives me the right to judge that you're an inappropriate person? Hell I own the account "HENTA1" on mc.

I'm not a very artistic person. I could never make my own skin, which doesn't leave me many skin options. Even though I don't like using pre-made skins I usually have to do so anyway.

So even if someone did judge me for using someone else's skin, I think it'd be wrong to do so.

As for avatars, I definitely think that plays a large role in first impressions. Avatars aren't like skins, you can find plenty of unique and practical images to use. Or just take a picture of whatever you sell on MCM.

I personaly don't judge people by their profile picture, but as you said Rypeo, a profile picture of an almost naked girl mostly says enough about their personality and maturity.

• Dodgy FaceQ/yahoo answers looking profile pictures
• Generic minecraft avatar pulled off google images
• Guy Fawkes mask/ 1337 haxor type profile pics

Any of those (unless I know the user) give off a bad first impression to me most of the time.
