It's sad to see people getting scammed hunders and hundreds of dollars everyday, atleast do something to stop them, like release thier ip and email or something but seriously they are literally ban evading and just scamming again.

Do people want that?

Releasing people's IP's and other information won't necessarily stop them from scamming. Some people don't care and will do it anyways. Plus we currently ban for doxing, so we'd be breaking our own rules essentially.

So what are you going to do with that data? DDoS them? send them death threats? SWAT them? The police aren't gonna bother for some online scam in 99% of cases. Everything else is very likely illegal. Therefore, in releasing personal data, MCM would be aiding in illegal activity. Then there's the European Data Protection act, which forces sites to keep personally identifiable data beyond email and IP secret for people browsing from EU (not IP because that is considered public data. Now, MCM doesnt have much more than Email and IP, but still, what the fuck are you gonna do with those? Most scammers aren't gonna give a damn, and releasing data like that sets a bad precedent.


TLDR: The only information MCM has to release, in almost all cases, is IP and Email. Ignoring whether or not its legal or moral to do this, What the fuck you gonna do? DDoS? Sign them up for 50 spam email sites?

All the things you could do with this data would be little more than petty revenge. Therefore no, I do not support this. Instead, I support people learning how to not get scammed, because half the reason scammers keep going is because it's so damn easy.

Exactly. It's ridiculously easy to get hold of disposable emails, and VPNs are little more difficult.

VPNs. Also, loads of false positives. Right now a system that associates people's IP's with other people's IP's already exists, but it must remain a case of manual decision, since its nearly impossible to put a logical threshold on when IPs in common is coincidence or ban-evading. The amount of single-instance IP's in common between users would blow your mind. If we made it automatic, we'd ban half the forum, 85% of which would be completely innocent, 10% would be coincidentally guilty of something minor, and 5% would be legit alts.
