It is quite ridiculous lately how bad MCM is with uptime. It is no longer the once or twice a day conundrum, it is nearly all day lately. If Mick does not take action soon, this site will slowly die.

Current Situation:

This site is protected by the services of Cloudfront, a service from Amazon. As you can tell, this system is not working too well. I would like to debunk a common misconception, and that is that people seem to think that AWS (Amazon Web Services) are to blame for this. That is not the case as AWS is a hosting service, and from my current knowledge, Mick does not run off of AWS anyway.

Proposed solution:

Cloudflare. This service has served me well and even if it has its flaws, you can't really say that Cloudfront is better. In Mick's case, I'd suggest this plan:

213ee63af86a9e0e9e94330748a452be.png

This plan provides more than enough for this site's needs and it can quite easily keep this site up much longer than the current system can.

I hope this helps some people understand the situation a bit better and how there is a quite easily feasible solution to this, the only hurdle being Mick's stubbornness.

If you have a week internet connection that effects it, today my internet was slow and well it got to that message thing I clicked forums and it worked so if you have bad internet that may effect it but I never see down time (only once) and I am on a bit ;)

Of course, if you have a weak internet connection it will affect performance. But if you look around, you can tell the impact of the downtime. Not to mention, this site is slow on my vps as well.[DOUBLEPOST=1488762938][/DOUBLEPOST]

Can you answer my question before you insult?

It's not clear how I'm ignorant, therefore I'm not clearly ignorant.
I said Amazon Web Services is the hosting service, which many people think is the issue. The real problem lies within Cloudfront, another service of Amazon.

Mcm uses aws for hosting and part of the recent downtime *may have been* as a result of amazon's typo issue that affected a lot of sites, however it lastest only a few hours therefore it cant be held responsible for all of the downtime. Personally since the beginning it hasnt seemed like the sys admin knows what hes doing. As soon as mick got him there were issue and there have continued to be issues on a weekly, sometimes daily basis for months now, its kinda sad

There is nothing wrong with CloudFront. Lots of websites use it and they aren't running at turtle speed.
Don't call one of the most popular AWS services "the real problem" - it can't possibly be.

Outages can happen in a variety of places and not all being at once. In this case, it seems to be not working on this site. Sure, it can be a number of contribution factors, like the system admin which lAkjtzAZ0 brought up, but cloudfront seems to be the contributing factor at this time.

Just because it's one of the "most popular AWS services" doesn't mean it can't be a problem. Idk where you've been, but for however good you think AWS is, it's not good enough to not have problems, and the people who create services like that are far from perfect as well. The latest AWS outage which possibly affected MCM for a short period and most likely WAS "the real problem" was caused by a damn typo. It doesn't matter how popular a service is, every service can and does have major issues like this

Again, lots of websites use Cloudfront, they don't have troubles. I don't see the reason to blame a huge company that know what they are doing just because 1 forum is having issues.

Anyway, the issues appear to have been resolved for now.

If you read anything I posted above, which it appears you did not, you would know that I am in fact NOT blaming the issues on any external service mcm uses. I specifically stated that the issue with AWS affected tons of sites like it MAY have MCM, however that was for merely hours at most, and I explained why I think the real downtime is occurring.

What typo are you referring to - and who made it? Cloudflare has had its typos too - the last one caused a pretty big breach. AWS has recovered from its typo disaster days before this thread was made (it was like a week ago, and it didn't take em more than 24 hours to fix). And at the time this thread was made (when I first joined MCM), it was slow. Therefore the AWS typo can't be the issue here.

EDIT: There may be a misunderstanding here, I actually agree with the first post you made on this thread. If AWS isn't the issue then its most likely the system admins that run this site. I was originally replying to BlastHappy :p

My lord, when are you guys going to understand AWS isn't to blame? I'm not going to lie, I thought the same. But then Ajdin said this:

It's not the platform being used, it's the system administrator behind it. While I wholeheartedly appreciate the time and dedication d3l3t3d and his team have poured into the site, it may be time to find a user who has had prior experience managing MCM. I will be making a suggestion in the future explaining and recommending a possible candidate that should be considered.

Until then, kindly refrain from making suggestions like. I don't think there's any point in underlining the obvious, as I'm pretty sure the staff team is looking for ways to solve the downtime.

Alright, shit posting is just plain dumb on this thread, keep this professional.

Oh my god! You have no IDEA the amount of times I have said this, CloudFront is a terrible service, especially by Amazon, I did not think it would be bad, the ENTIRE issue is because of CloudFront. Ofcourse, if we did get CloudFlare, there will be issues here and there BY MCM, but, that is inevitable, after all, they are a site. But CloudFlare would not cause down-time.
This takes me to my second point :
The system admin, alright, this is nothing personal, but, as I has said MANY times in the past, some people use this service (MCMarket) to put food in the mouths of their children. With this downtime, we get less advertisement -> causing less clients -> causing less money. This needs to be changed.
My suggestion :
  1. Get CloudFlare, fuck it, get the Enterprise plan.
c6c4f6d05a2614a608b5ba86af0ad394.png

2. Nothing personal : change the system admin.

And wall-lah, McM downtime will be fixed.

I never said AWS is to blame, I said CloudFront is shit.
Either way, I agree with BeBosny, as stated in the post I made, I think the system admin team is quite terrible and un-qualified for a website of this capacity.

You are entirely aware that CloudFront is AWS, right?
